Lemont’s Bridget Lynn Becomes School’s First Two-Time Girls’ Golf State Qualifier

Girls' golf is the first program to represent Lemont High School in IHSA State Finals competition this year.

As a junior a year ago, Lemont High School senior Bridget Lynn became the third individual in program history to qualify for state finals competition in girls’ golf.

This season, she has carved out her own place in the program’s record book by becoming its first-ever two-time state qualifier. Lynn tied for fifth in the individual standings at the IHSA Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional on Oct. 14 to earn a berth to the 2013 IHSA Class AA Girls’ Golf State Finals, which will be contested on Friday, October 18, and Saturday, October 19, at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur.

At the IHSA Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional, which was contested at Flossmoor’s Coyote Run Golf Course, she fired a +3 75, which not only tied for fifth in the individual standings but was second among the top 10 golfers from non-advancing teams, earning her a state finals berth.

Head coach Bill Mondrella’s Indians tied for sixth of 12 teams in sectional competition, totaling a team score of 358. Hinsdale Central (301) won the IHSA Sectional title, while Lyons Township (318) and Sandburg (329) finished second and third, respectively. The top three teams from the IHSA’s four Class AA Sectionals advanced to the state finals, along with the top 10 individuals from schools that did not qualify for state finals team competition.

Lemont advanced to sectional play after placing third in its own IHSA Regional at Broken Arrow Golf Course on October 9. The Indians posted a team score of 356, which trailed only IHSA Regional titlist Hinsdale Central (315) and Lyons Township (325). Lynn shot an 82 to tie for eighth individually, while junior Laura Ringo tied for 11th with an 87.

Lynn has enjoyed a terrific senior year. She earned a medalist finish at the South Suburban Conference championship for the second straight year, pacing all SSC golfers with a nine-hole score of 36 in the rain-shortened event.

Chantelle Mika ‘99 was the first Lemont girls’ golfer to qualify for state finals competition; she tied for 13th at the 1997 IHSA Girls’ Golf State Finals. Emily Lejman ‘12 competed at the 2011 IHSA Class AA Girls’ Golf State Finals, and Lynn tied for 50th in her first state finals appearance in 2012.

The IHSA Class AA State Finals will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on October 18, and will conclude on October 19. Hickory Point Golf Course is located at 727 Weaver Road in Decatur. Hickory Point is a 5,779-yard, par-72 course.
