Lemont Firefighters Pitch in to Collect Toys for Kids in Need

Donations of toys collected by Lemont residents will put smiles on the faces of kids in hospitals or shelters this Christmas.

The firefighters and employees of the Lemont Fire Protection District have joined with many area residents in collecting bags and bags of toys for Lemont’s own Santa Earl Anderson to distribute this year.

The gifts will be donated to the Jeff Anderson Children’s Foundation, in memory of our Santa Earl Anderson’s son. Santa delivers the toys to children in area hospitals during the holidays. This year, Anderson expects to distribute as many as 16,000 toys to needy children. Many of the gifts will be handed out in person, when Anderson dons his red suit and brings joy to children in hospitals, shelters and other places where he feels the Christmas spirit is most desperately needed.

"This is a chance for our firefighters to give back to our community," said Lemont Fire Chief George Rimbo. "We want to remember everyone can use a little more cheer during the holiday season.  We wish all of Lemont will enjoy a safe family holiday and remember to please keep fire-safety in mind year round."

Holiday Season Safety Tips

  • Keep matches, lighters and candles out of children's reach.
  • Consider flameless candles – they are just as beautiful and much, much safer.
  • Consider an artificial tree; they are much safer and cleaner. Select only fresh trees that are deep green in color have a strong scent of pine and do not lose their needles readily.
