Illinois Senate OK's Illegal Immigrant Driver's License Bill
It's unknown how the bill will fare in the Illinois House.
The Illinois Senate on Tuesday approved legislation that could allow undocumented illegal immigrants to have driver's licenses. State Senators voter overwhelmingly in favor of Senate Bill 957, which would allow immigrants to receive a temporary visitor driver's license (TVDL) upon successful completion of driver's training. The TVDL would then allow undocumented immigrants to obtain auto insurance, but do not provide a means of lawful identification for any other purpose, according to a statement issued by State Sen. Pat McGuire (D-Joliet) on Tuesday. I'm begining to think I'd be better off as an illegal! If the state is going to provide a drivers lic to these folks under the guise of it "allows them to get insurance so we are all safer"...then the state ought to keep a registry of the licenses and coordinate the issuance of a current insurance policy and if one is not purchased and on record...arrest and remove the licenses and confiscate the… more ›
