‘Lemont Loves the Arts’ Highlights Student Talent

Everest Academy Enrollment Increases by 40 Percent for Upcoming School Year

The Lemont private school reports that more than 140 students are enrolled for the 2012-13 school year—up from just 100 students last year.

A Lemont private school, Everest Academy, recently announced enrollment numbers for the upcoming school year with over 40% growth. The Catholic school began in 1995 and has seen continuous growth, especially since the completion of the new facility on Bell Road. “I believe the school has an excellent academic program to offer and the parents have been very happy, which of course attracts other parents”, says Heidi Matelich, Admissions Director for the school. With almost all of last year’s students returning, enrollment has jumped from 100 students to over 140 enrolled for the 2012-13 academic year.  Everest Academy educates students from preschool through 8th grade, beginning as young as three years old. It's time to honor those that are making a difference in our children's lives.

Monday marked the start of Teacher Appreciation Week across the United States, and Patch wants to pay tribute to all of the hardworking, dedicated teachers in Lemont. Schools will be celebrating in all sorts of ways all week long. I thought it might be fun to honor those that you trust with your children 35 hours a week, nine months a year. So, with that in mind I’d like to invite everyone to give a shout-out to your kids’ current teacher or one who has made a difference in their lives or education. Five Things You Need to Know Today

Five things every Lemonter needs to know Tuesday. The Lemont Public Library and Everest Academy will host a free preschool fair beginning at 10:30 a.m. today at the library, 50 E. Wend St., Lemont. Chicago Bishop Visits Everest Academy

Bishop Andrew Wypych of the Archdiocese of Chicago had lunch with students and led a special mass Friday, Jan. 6.

Students and teachers at Everest Academy in Lemont were treated to a special visit Friday by Bishop Andrew Wypych of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Wypych's visit included a lunch in his honor, a tour of the school, student presentations and a mass in the school's chapel. When the bishop entered the school, he was greeted by students, families, faculty and board members, who lined the hallways and applauded. After a tour of the school and lunch, the bishop enjoyed a presentation by students that included songs, a prayer in Polish and an address from student council members Veronica Kopec of Lemont and Peter Diamond of Orland Park. Bishop Wypych spoke to the students for a few minutes, telling them how he loved school and reading as a child. …

PHOTOS: Students Share Their Dreams for Annual 'Lemont Loves the Arts' Program

An open house was held Tuesday night at SS. Cyril and Methodius to show off artwork by students from all Lemont grade schools.

Nearly 200 students from Lemont's public and private schools participated this fall in the second annual "Lemont Loves the Arts" showcase. An open house was held Tuesday night at SS. Cyril and Methodius School, 607 Sobieski Drive. It featured entries from students in kindergarten through eighth grade in a broad range of categories. Though the majority of entries were in the traditional fine arts category, many students also contributed work in areas such as photography, dance, music, literature and computer-generated art. Aug. 1: Hair Cuttery Charity Event, 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid'

Five things every Lemonter needs to know Monday.

Hair Cuttery will launch its 12th annual Share A Haircut event this month, donating one free haircut to a child in need in the community for every haircut purchased for a child 18 or younger Aug. 1-15. A total of 106 Hair Cuttery salons in Chicagoland will participate in the program. The Lemont Hair Cuttery is located at 1218 State St. The Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St., is hosting a screening of Diary of a Whimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. No registration is required, and admission is free with a donation for the local food pantries. Woman's Club Donates $9,000 to Local Elementary Schools

The Lemont Junior Woman's Club recently presented checks to District 113A and the village's four private institutions.

The Lemont Junior Woman's Club closed out the 2010-2011 school year on a high note, awarding a total of $9,000 to Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A and the village's four private schools. The club announced last month that each of Lemont's elementary schools would receive a share of the funds, with the amount reflecting the size of enrollment. "Part of our mission is to support various aspects of the community, including education," said Jennifer Gould, vice president and philanthropies chairperson for the club. "This year, we wanted to come up with something to give back to all of the schools." Through the organization's fundraising efforts, they were able to raise enough for the $9,000 donation. Lemont Private Schools See Boost in Inquiries, Transfers

Everest Academy, SS. Cyril & Methodius, St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick's and the Lemont Montessori School all report an increase in parent interest over the past year.

All four of the private elementary schools in Lemont report seeing an increase this year in parents interested in learning more about their programs, as well as greater attendance at open house events. The schools, which include Everest Academy, Montessori School of Lemont, St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School and SS. Cyril & Methodius School, have also seen an increase in mid-year transfer students during the 2010-2011 school year. “It’s been absolutely crazy,” said Therese Colby, administrator of Lemont Montessori, which has welcomed ten new students to its primary and elementary programs since January. “Our enrollment is up, our prospective parent coffees have been really busy, and we’ve had a lot of interest in our elementary program.” …

I dunno about that. Past votes have pretty much followed that pattern. I wonder what would be different if any of them passed. The administration's past behavior at their former employers indicates that the spending would have even blown past that in the quest for more.
