Five Things You Need to Know Today

April 23: Lemont Village Board, School Board meetings

Five things every Lemonter needs to know Monday. The Lemont Village Board will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at 418 Main Street. The meeting will include a public hearing on municipal electrical aggregation, a process that allows a municipality to bundle all residential and small commercial accounts and collectively bid the accounts to suppliers in the hope of offering a lower cost source of power for its customers. The residents of Lemont passed a referendum March 20 authorizing the village to engage in the process. The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. tonight at Old Quarry Middle School, 16100 W. 127 St., to discuss requests for proposals for Old Quarry’s automation upgrade …

New Lemont Township Community Center Nears Completion

Township officials said at their meeting Tuesday that they plan to open the facility to the public during the second or third week of January 2011.

After nearly nine months of construction and planning, Lemont Township officials are preparing to open their new community center to the public next month. Township Supervisor Steve Rosendahl reported during the board's meeting Tuesday that workers were putting the finishing touches on the Lemont Township Community Center, which is located near the Veterans Memorial Tollway in the 58-acre Heritage Woodland Sanctuary, just north of 127th Street. The new facility will feature a 4,500 square-foot town hall, a full kitchen and a 1,200 square-foot educational interpretive center.
