Village Administrator Ben Wehmeier confirmed Thursday that he will leave Lemont at the end of June to become the administrator of Jefferson County, WI.
Lemont Village Administrator Ben Wehmeier will leave his position next month to become the new county administrator for Jefferson County in Wisconsin. Wehmeier, who has served as village administrator since 2010, was officially hired by the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. He informed Mayor Brian Reaves of the move earlier this month, and will continue to serve through the end of June. In a phone interview Thursday, Wehmeier said he is looking forward to moving back to his native Wisconsin. "It was a hard decision because I've loved working in Lemont, but I think it's an exciting opportunity for my family to be able to move back home and also for me professionally," Wehmeier said. The Lemont village board, three former mayors and Congressman Dan Lipinski were on hand Monday to celebrate the newly renovated building.
Lemont officials were joined Monday by Congressman Dan Lipinski as they rededicated their recently renovated Village Hall, 418 Main St. Renovations to the 120-year-old Village Hall began last summer and continued through January. The village of Lemont will hold an open house and rededication ceremony Monday night for the newly renovated Village Hall. The open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 418 Main St. A rededication ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Renovations to the 120-year-old Village Hall began last summer and continued through January. The approximately $2.2 million in upgrades included improvements to its lobby, roof, windows, exterior doors, bathrooms and conference rooms. The 50-foot-wide electromagnet will travel 3,200 miles by boat and barge this summer to be part of a new experiment that will study particle physics.
A particle storage ring spanning 50 feet in diameter will make a stop in Lemont this summer during a 3,200-mile journey from New York to Illinois. The giant electromagnet is headed to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, just outside Batavia, where it will be used in an experiment called Muon g-2, and will study the properties of muons, tiny subatomic particles that exist for only 2.2 millionths of a second. The ring, made of steel and aluminum, is part of a machine built at New York's Brookhaven National Laboratory in the 1990s. Although most of the machine can be disassembled and brought to Fermilab in trucks, the massive electromagnet must be transported in one piece, and cannot tilt or twist more than a few degrees without being …

Work is finally underway on the long-awaited Triangle Project in Lemont. Construction officially began Monday at the intersection of Archer Avenue and McCarthy and Derby roads, where workers will spend the next several months improving road and sidewalk conditions. The project will include pavement widening, resurfacing, intersection channelization, the installation of traffic control signals, and all necessary traffic control and restoration, according to village officials. The total cost of the project is about $2.43 million, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
