The inclement weather that has dogged the region in recent weeks claimed another victim Thursday afternoon: the South Suburban Blue boys tennis showdown between five-time defending champion Lemont and Oak Forest.
Lemont boys tennis coach Jon DeGuzman had the ultimate look of resignation as the anointed time for the Indians’ critical showdown with Oak Forest neared. “The courts aren’t really safe to play on right now,” DeGuzman said. Within minutes, after consulting with the Oak Forest coaching staff, the decision was official: the inclement weather that has dogged Chicagoland in recent weeks had claimed yet another outdoor spring sport. “I really wanted to get the match in,” DeGuzman said. “Oak Forest is our biggest (South Suburban Blue) rival.” With the moisture on the courts becoming increasingly untenable, the coaches’ joint decision to postpone the match was a no-brainer. “We’re not sure if (the courts) can be good for the safety of everyone,” …

Long-time friends find great success as Lemont's No. 1 doubles tennis team.
Natalia Okon is just a teenager, but she's already a VP of Finance. She might not be earning a steady paycheck as a vice president these days—her earnings come from a part-time gig at a banquet hall—but Okon balances her busy varsity tennis schedule, her duties as the VP of Finance for Inkspot, and all of the typical social activities of your normal high school senior. Inkspot is a student-run business at Lemont High School that produces a literary magazine annually. The publication has enjoyed tremendous success and been recognized often. Inkspot won the Junior Achievement Responsible Business Ideas Contest this year and was honored as Chicagoland's Junior Achievement Company of the year in 2009. The funny thing is that Okon …

Indians sweep all five matches, while yielding just five points.
Coaches often instruct their players to not play down to the level of their opponent. They repeat this order because many athletes have fallen to lesser opponents after refusing to play at their own level. On Monday, the Lemont girls tennis team didn't take Thornton Fractional North (6-9) lightly, easily defeating the Meteors 5-0 in South Suburban Blue Conference play. "We had a good day," Lemont coach Chris Hill said. "Coming into the season, we didn't know what to expect since all but two (players) were new to the varsity, but we've done really well." Lemont (11-3, 4-0) breezed past T.F. North. No. 1 singles player Sam Drafke, a sophomore, shut out Angie Davis 6-0, 6-0 and junior Kelsey Morris defeated Amanda Mitchell, 6-0, 6-0. "I …
