Lemont Welcomes New Ace Hardware on State Street

Owners Dan and Pattie Harris opened their new store Monday next to Chipain's Fresh Market. The family also owns an Ace Hardware store in Palos Heights.

Lemont’s new Ace Hardware opened on Monday – and owner Dan Harris is delighted by the number of customers who have already visited his store over the past couple of days. “We opened the doors and people just started coming in,” Harris said. “Lemont is a great town.” The new store at 1096 State St., next to Chipain's Fresh Market, is part of the Ace Hardware chain, which has nearly 4,800 retail stores throughout the United States and around the world. Each store is independently owned and operated. Harris and his wife, Pattie, also own Palos Ace Hardware at 6465 W. 127th St. in Palos Heights. Goodwill to Open New Store in Lemont

Village officials confirmed Friday that a retail and donation center will open in the former Sears Harware location in August.

Goodwill Industries of Metropolitan Chicago will open a retail and donation center in Lemont later this year, village and company officials confirmed. The 21,000-square-foot store is tentatively scheduled to open in mid-August in the former Sears Appliance and Hardware location at 1146 State St., said Cheryl Lightholder, spokesperson for Goodwill. "We're very excited to open a new store in Lemont, and continue our growth plan in the Chicago area," Lightholder said. Village Administrator Ben Wehmeier confirmed Friday that representatives from Goodwill recently dropped off building plans and have been approved for all appropriate permits. Critter Cleaners Moving from Downtown Lemont to State Street

The pet grooming business is moving to the Chipain's plaza to accommodate a new feed store.

Critter Cleaners will close its doors in downtown Lemont this month to move to a new location on State Street. The pet grooming business, currently located at 170 Lemont St., will open Feb. 1 at 1120 State St., owner Kim Walter said. The new location is next to CarQuest in the Chipain's shopping plaza. Walter said she is expanding Critter Cleaners to include a feed store, which will cater to dogs, cats, ferrets, chinchillas, gerbils, hamsters and reptiles. She made the decision to move to State Street after realizing she would need more parking spaces. "There isn't enough room down here," Walter said of her downtown Lemont location. "My customers have been getting tickets, and we're right next to the railroad tracks so I needed a place …

Good news, Lemont: Customers using the free Wi-Fi service in Starbucks, 1251 State St., will now be able to access a number of premium entertainment and news sites, including Lemont.patch.com. The Seattle-based coffee chain announced Oct.20 the launch of the new "Starbucks Digital Network," a collection of hand-picked sites available to all its wireless Internet users. The network offers content on six different channels: News, Entertainment, Wellness, Business and Careers, My Neighborhood and Starbucks. The Lemont Public Works Department is again asking drivers to seek alternative routes while workers finish construction.

The Lemont Public Works Department is urging drivers to avoid the intersection of State and Illinois streets Wednesday as workers continue the installation of a new water main. Construction began Monday and was originally expected to be completed Tuesday. Traffic will be affected from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, said Ralph Pukula, director of Lemont Public Works. Though traffic coordinators will be on site to direct vehicles, Pukula said drivers should use alternative routes if possible.

Lemont Consignment Boutique Offers Affordable Options for Holiday Shopping

Déjá Vu Rack celebrated its grand opening Saturday in Lemont Village Square on State Street.

A new, "upscale" consignment boutique in Lemont is offering bargain hunters a wide variety of designer clothing and accessories just in time for the holiday shopping season. Déjá Vu Rack, located at 1243 State St. in Lemont Village Square, celebrated its grand opening Saturday with a ribbon cutting courtesy of the Lemont Area Chamber of Commerce. The event featured plenty of deals, as well as a free raffle for gift certificates and prizes. Kim Cochrane, owner of Déjá Vu Rack, decided to open the shop after many years in retail management. State Street Water Main Construction Begins Monday

The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Crews will begin working Monday to replace the old State Street water mains near downtown Lemont. Len Cox and Sons Excavating will work on the project, replacing exisiting parallel 4-inch and 8-inch water mains from Cass Street to Illinois Street with new 12-inch pipes. The cost will be $176,170, which is higher than the original engineer's estimate of $145,717. Drivers should be cautious when passing through the area, as flag personnel will be on site directing traffic, said Rose Yates, executive assistant for the village of Lemont. Approximately 70 percent of the project will be funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, while the village will pay the remaining 30 percent.
