Local Boy Scout Troop 149 has awarded 33 Eagle Scout ranks over its 53-year history – and this weekend, the troop will bestow the prestigious award upon six more young men: Brian Finnegan, Justin Stanwyck, Paul Rachwalski, Joshua Wiktor, Delaney McGuire and Joseph Walano. The Eagle Scout ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 18 at 15052 S. Archer Ave. in Lockport. According to Boy Scouts of America, the rank of Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. A Boy Scout must progress through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life before becoming an Eagle Scout – as well as live by the Scout Oath and Law in his daily life, earn 21 merit badges, serve six months in a …

Mark Laketa, owner of Tom's Place, was among hundreds of riders who raised money Sunday for Shady Oaks Camp in Homer Glen.
Hundreds of motorcycles lined the streets of Homer Glen this weekend to support a local camp for children and adults with disabilities. More than 200 bikers participated Sunday in the eighth annual poker run for Shady Oaks Camp, a recreational summer program for campers with cerebral palsy and other physical and developmental disorders. The camp, located at 16300 Parker Road in Homer Glen, was founded in 1947 by the Parents Association for Cerebral Palsy Children. According to the camp's website, the group purchased more than 30 acres of land in Homer Township with hopes of creating a summer camp that could meet the specific needs of disabled children and adults. I was privileged & honored to have attended the Eagle Scout Honor Ceremony for the above mentioned six young men. After reading their profiles, one can see each has or will graduate high school with "high honors". Joe & Evelyn Walano must be very proud of their son, J. P. Each young man aspires to go on to college for their higher education . The dinner was truly a celebration!   more ›
