Lemont Police Update Elder Scam Alert
Police warn of a phone scam asking victims to purchase a Green Dot Money Pack card from Walmart or CVS Pharmacy and load it with money.
Story update: On Jan. 25, Lemont Police investigators issued the following statement: The Individual involved in recent phone scam has asked potential victims to purchase a Green Dot Money Pack card from WalMart or CVS Pharmacy and load it with money. Subject identified himself as “James Peterson,” and requested a call back with the confirmation number for the purchased Green Dot Money Pack. After, the intended victim would receive $1.5 million in an hour and a half. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true -- it is not true! Do not fall for con artists using the phone or other electronics to bilk you of money. Hang up and contact police if you have further information or if you have any questions.
