The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education held its monthly business meeting at Tuesday in the Old Quarry Middle School LRC.
During School District 113A Board of Education's business meeting Tuesday night, the board voted to permanently transfer $1.8 million from the district’s operations and maintenance fund to the education fund. Since December 2009, District 113A has been following a state-approved financial plan that includes enrollment, staffing plans, borrowing, cash flow analysis, and budget expenditures and reductions. Any deviation from the plan by the district must be approved by the ISBE before implementation. Administrator attributes progress to perseverance of principals, teachers, support staff and parents.
As school districts across the state await the Illinois State Board of Education’s release of School Report Cards by the end of September or beginning of October, students in Lemont-Bromberek School District 113A can already show they have met some important goals. At Tuesday’s board of education meeting, Assistant Superintendent Mary Gricus reported the district’s overall student population met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets in tested grade levels. AYP serves as a measure of student performance under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will consider Tuesday its 2012-13 support staffing plan, as well as an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Lemont for the use of Central School. According to the meeting agenda, District 113A administrators are recommending that the board maintain current staffing levels for all educational support personnel, including building/ground and transportation staff. With a new superintendent set to take office in July and fund balances continuing to improve, Dave Molitor is ready to start planning for the long-term success of Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. Molitor was elected president of the District 113A school board during a special meeting Tuesday night, replacing board member Mike Aurelio. The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education has selected Dave Molitor as its president for the upcoming year. Molitor, who has served as vice president for the past year, replaces current board member Mike Aurelio, who was also up for the position Tuesday night. Kevin Doherty was elected vice president—a position he held from 2010-2011. Cindy Kelly retained her position as board secretary. During the meeting, board members were split when it came time to appoint new officers. Molitor was nominated for the office of president by Doherty, and was elected by a 4-2 vote. Dear District 113A Community Members, Last week I was encouraged to see so many voters come out to show such significant interest in one of our community’s greatest assets, our schools. I admit I am disappointed in the referendum result, but I fully respect the decision of the community. As a board, we are committed to moving forward in a positive and productive way. We will seek creative solutions to educate students while living within our financial limits and resource constraints. We will build on progress already made toward improving financial stability and accountability.
