Lemont Junior Woman’s Club Celebrates 20 Years of Giving

Not-for-profit organization, providing cultural, educational, civic and philanthropic services to Lemont and its residents.

The Lemont Junior Woman’s Club is kicking off the new year – and newly elected club president Jill McAndrews is acknowledging and honoring the club’s history while looking toward the future through the theme, “Grounded, Growing, Giving.” Established in 1993 by 50 charter members, the LJWC began by dedicating itself to establishing a permanent site for its Safety Village programs. Today, the building at 55 Stephen St.  hosts a variety of local groups, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports clubs and more. In 1998, the club began sponsoring the Lemont Juniorettes, a service group for young women ages 12 through 18. The group reflects the service and community-centered values of the LJWC and teaches the importance of citizenship and …

Hauntingly Good Time Planned For Annual Halloween Hoedown

The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in downtown Lemont, and will include a costume parade and contest, haywagon rides, trick-or-treating and more.

Downtown Lemont will be a flurry of activity this Saturday as area kids get a jumpstart on Halloween by attending the village’s annual Halloween Hoedown. The event, which takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., will include a costume parade and contest, haywagon rides at Budnik Plaza, kids entertainment, a pumpkin jumpie, arts and crafts, and trick-or-treating at Safety Village and multiple downtown Lemont stores. “It’s just a great little event for the kids,” said Donna Pecina, marketing coordinator for the Village of Lemont. “And pretty much everything is free.” Lineup for the costume parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Legion Park across from the Metra Station, 101 Main St. At that time, the costume contest will be held and prizes will be …

Holiday Spirit, Dinners Move Through Lemont on Christmas Day

Patch contributor Terri O'Neill recounts the Christmas Day efforts of her non-profit group, Hope and Friendship Ministries, as she and dozens of volunteers prepared dinner and care packages for 58 Lemont families.

Five years ago on Christmas Day, 12 new friends gathered around a table at a local church and enjoyed a Christmas Dinner that had been prepared by many other generous friends from the Lemont community. That tradition continued this past Christmas, but under the newer format that had been created a few years ago to meet those in need at their door with a home-cooked Christmas dinner and bag of personal care and household needs—all of which were prepared and provided by friends in the community.   Hope and Friendship Ministries has become known for providing an alternative to holiday meals for persons seeking to spend these often difficult holidays in a non-conventional manner.
