Lemont Mayor Threatens Legal Action over Illinois American Water Surveys

Officials from the five area municipalities that have begun the process of creating a joint water agency are irate over the private water supplier's recent telephone campaign and new website.

Updated at 5:59 a.m. Dec. 20  As five area municipalities move closer to attempting a takeover of an Illinois American Water pipeline, the company hit back, launching a new website and conducting a telephone survey of residents of the communities. On Monday night, Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves confirmed that he and many other residents received the phone call last week. The survey was so misleading, he said, that he is consulting attorneys about filing a legal injunction against the company. "It starts off asking whether residents are happy with water rates and eventually asks questions about [me and the resident's political party affiliation]," said Reaves, who claims the calls are politically motivated. American Water is a MONOPOLY and they take FULL advantage of it. It's a joke and something needs to be done. We have beautiful homes, pay large tax bills, and some of us pay as much for WATER (A natural resource) as we do for all other utilities COMBINED. I do expect a Class Action against them at some point, it's called "Price Gouging"   more ›

Local Communities Set Trick-or-Treat Hours

Make sure Halloween is a treat, not a trick this year by heeding these bits of advice.

It’s almost time for little ghosts and goblins — not to mention princesses, astronauts and this year’s celebrity lookalikes — to hit the streets in search of candy. Halloween is Monday, Oct. 31, and area municipalities have set the following trick-or-treating hours: And while it’s not quite time to set the clocks back, it is getting dark earlier and earlier, so it’s important for kids and adults alike to remember the following Halloween safety tips, courtesy of Silver Cross Hospital and the Village of Bolingbrook:
