Year-over-year, Lemont saw a slight increase in the number of homes sold. The median home price rose significantly, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.
The 16 homes sold in Lemont during March 2013 represented a 23 percent increase over March 2012, when 13 homes were sold, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). While the number of homes sold increased slightly, the median price of homes sold in March rose significantly in Lemont. The median price increased 69.9 percent to $326,250 from $192,000 in March 2012. The market for detached, single-family homes in suburbs throughout DuPage County experienced notable sales gains in March, MORe reported. MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data. Hinsdale had the biggest percentage drop in the number of homes sold, with -37.9 percent fewer homes sold year over year. That adds up to 18 homes sold during March 2013 …

Crain's Chicago Business reports 29.7 percent of homeowners in Lemont own their homes outright.
Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. According to the Crain's analysis, of 4,697 Lemont homeowners, 29.7 percent are mortgage-free. These numbers are higher than the Chicagoland average of 26 percent of homeowners being mortgage-free.
