Lemont will meet Richards High School in the second round of the 2012 Illinois High School Association playoffs at 6 p.m. Saturday at Oak Lawn. If you can’t make it to the game, we’re streaming it live!
No. 3 seed Lemont High School (9-1) will travel to Oak Lawn to battle No. 2 seed Richards High School (9-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday in the second round of the 2012 Illinois High School Association state playoffs. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with kick-off at 6 p.m. General admission costs $5 per person. Richards High School is located at 10601 S. Central Ave. in Oak Lawn. All second-round games will be played Friday, Nov. 2, or Saturday, Nov. 3, according to the IHSA. Before the contest begins on Saturday, Lemont fans will already know the outcome of the Friday night game between No. 1 seed Oak Forest (9-1) and No. 5 seed Palos Heights Shepard (7-3). YouTube videos featuring 16-year-old Peter Marzano and his sister Gabby will appear on WGN Morning News throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs.
After the Chicago Blackhawks took a rough 3-2 overtime loss to the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals Thursday, Lemont's resident NHL commentator Peter Marzano took to his YouTube account for a quick recap. Marzano, 16, and his 13-year-old sister Gabby started recording Blackhawks post-game and pre-game shows in their basement during the 2010 playoffs, in which Chicago took home the Stanley Cup. The duo was discovered by a WGN producer shortly after, and have been appearing on the morning news show during the playoffs ever since. For Lemont and Oak Forest fans, it had to be a feeling of déjà vu as the two schools’ football teams faced off for the second time in two weeks Friday night. Much like in the regular-season finale, the Indians took advantage of costly first-half mistakes by the Bengals as Lemont went on to a 35-14 second-round playoff win. The Indians (11-0) found their stride in the second quarter after Tyler Jay caught a deep jump ball pass and took it to the end zone for a 75-yard touchdown to give the Indians a 14-7 lead. The No. 1 Indians (10-0) will take on the No. 5 Bengals (7-3) at 7 p.m. at Oak Forest High School for Round 2 of the state playoffs, the Illinois High School Association announced Monday.
The undefeated Lemont High School football team will head to conference rival Oak Forest this Friday as they look to extend their postseason run. The No. 1 Indians (10-0) will take on the No. 5 Bengals (7-3) at 7 p.m. Friday at Oak Forest High School, 15201 South Central Ave., the Illinois High School Association announced Monday afternoon. Despite being the top seed in its playoff bracket, Lemont is not guaranteed home field advantage under IHSA rules. According to IHSA.org, the higher seed hosts the game in the first round. In subsequent rounds, the school that has hosted fewer times during the current playoff series hosts the game. Despite a strong start from the visiting Morgan Park Mustangs, the Lemont varsity football team rallied for another convincing win Friday night in the first game of the IHSA Class 6A playoffs. The Indians (10-0) beat the Mustangs (4-6) 56-30, scoring 47 points after falling behind 12-3 early in the first quarter. Lemont will travel to conference rival Oak Forest next week for their second-round match after the Bengals dismantled conference foe T.F. North in a 48-26 win Friday night. BLOOMINGTON--The Illinois High School Association and Comcast SportsNet Chicago have announced jointly that the “2011 IHSA Football Playoff Pairing Release Show” will air live from 8 to 10 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet PLUS (CSN+) on Saturday, Oct. 22. The two-hour program will be the first time that the postseason football brackets are revealed, as 256 qualifying teams across eight classes discover their first round opponents.
