Marathon Bombing Sends Shockwaves Across Country

Across Patch's network of 900 sites, people felt the effect of the bombing at the Boston Marathon.

On mobile? You can see a scrollable, full-screen view of the map here. Monday's terror attack near the finish line of the Boston Marathon shocked the country and touched communities far from Massachusetts. The Boston Marathon is a national and international event, drawing participants and spectators from far away. When the bombs went off, they reverberated among families, friends and people who joined vigils honoring the victims. To illustrate the reach of this story, we've created this interactive map which displays every Patch site that wrote a story about local people touched by the attack. Each marker on the map is clickable and includes the name of the local person connected to the story and a link to their story. The 400+ markers on …

Patch.com Witnesses Record Growth

May was the platform’s most successful month to date, with nearly 12 million users and record-breaking revenue. And, we launched four new sites in suburban Chicago.

One of the reasons we love working at Patch is the reaction from our audience to the coverage and conversation across the local Patch network. We are so focused on the local scene that we don't often share the good news of Patch itself, still a toddler of a company that's growing by leaps and bounds. Monday, we put out a press release about some of the growth we've seen: Patch, AOL’s platform of local news, information and engagement sites, announced Monday, June 10, that May of 2012 was its most successful traffic and revenue period in the company’s history.  Patch served a record 11.7 million users in May (comScore), representing a 14% increase over April (10.3 million users) and an 11% increase over its previous traffic record (10.6 …

Lemont Patch Gets a New Look

While the content hasn't changed, our homepage has been updated to become more user-friendly.

No, you're not losing it! Lemont Patch looks different today. We did a quick visual nip-and-tuck to the homepage to make it even more user-friendly. And we've moved a couple pieces of furniture. For those keeping score:  And of course we prettified a few things.  While the site might look a little different today, we still offer the same robust coverage of everything happening in Lemont. That was, is, and will always be our mission. We hope you'll let us know what you think of our tweaks - drop me a line at amanda@patch.com or offer a comment below!

White House Answers Patch Reader's Question

Plainfield native Dylan Schrock was one of just six Patch readers from around the country whose question was selected to be answered by the office of the POTUS.

In January, the White House Office of Digital Strategy reached out to Patch to get questions from its users.  One of the responses chosen was from Dylan Schrock, a Plainfield native now living in Ann Arbor, MI, who asked President Obama's office, "While you seek to punish those responsible for the sub-prime mortgage crisis, will you pursue those in positions in the federal government and federal agencies who had an impact, or will you simply pursue those in private financial sector?" In the video above, you can see the response from National Economic Council Deputy Director Brian Deese. "The president's approach to the housing crisis and the financial crisis is designed to be comprehensive and to seek out wrongdoing wherever it happened, …
