Faulty Pump Spewed Gasoline and Burned Lockport Woman's Lungs: Lawsuit

A Lockport woman claims her lungs were injured when a pump at a Homer Glen service station malfunctioned.

A malfunctioning gas pump spewed fuel into a Lockport woman's lungs and landed her in the hospital for a week, said the lawyer suing an oil company on her behalf. "The way she described it to me, it was like her lungs were on fire and she couldn't catch her breath," attorney Frank Cservenyak said of his client, 64-year-old Martha Farmer. Farmer was pumping gas into her car at the 12007 159th St. Speedway station in Homer Glen in January 2011 when the pump failed to shut off, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in Will County court. The pump kept running and continued "to spray gasoline upon patrons," the suit says. Popular Lemont, Woodridge Races Partner for 'Double Dare Challenge'

The Double Dare Challenge combines Lemont’s Advocate Good Samaritan Quarryman 10 Mile and Woodridge’s Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10.

Runners will get more bang for their buck this summer when two popular area races, Lemont’s Advocate Good Samaritan Quarryman 10 Mile and Woodridge’s Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10, partner for the Double Dare Challenge. “Both races are close to each other, but run at different times of the year,” said Dave Fako, race director of the Quarryman. “And both events have similar reputations as high-quality, well-organized events with challenging courses.” The Quarryman 10 Mile steps off at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Main and Julia streets in Lemont, while the Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10, which is run on the trails at the Waterfall Glen Preserve in Woodridge, is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23.
