Football: Lemont Rolls Past Morgan Park

Lemont 56, Morgan Park 30: Indians score 47 unanswered points after falling behind 12-3 early to visiting Mustangs. Indians face conference rival Oak Forest in second round.

Lemont football had some thrilling highs and a few surprising lows as they beat 8-seed Morgan Park 56-30 in their first-round playoff matchup on Friday. The Indians (10-0) were caught off guard on the Mustangs’ first play from scrimmage, which was an 84-yard flea flicker pass to receiver Javon Bright, giving Morgan Park a 6-0 lead 20 seconds into the game. After a Lemont field goal, Mustangs QB Andre Newell scored on a 65-yard run on their second play of scrimmage to put them up 12-3 after missing the two-point conversion.  The Indians, facing an unthinkable first-round exit, rallied after a gusty fake punt on a fourth-and-long turned to a 23-yard pass to Jake Lemming. The Indians took the play as their sign and proceeded to systematically…

Five Popular Halloween Costumes for 2011

Traditional Halloween costumes still top consumer research lists as most popular.

A survey by the National Retail Federation earlier this month, outlines the favored Halloween costume trends of 2011. Harry Potter is nowhere to be found.  Read on to find out what the favorite adult and children's costumes are for 2011! 1. Topping the list for adult costumes is the Witch, which implies that more women dress up for Halloween than men. Yet this seems kind of lazy -- the witch is such an easy costume. Pointy hat, long black gown, grab a broom from the kitchen and you’ve got yourself a costume. Numero uno for children is, funny enough, the opposite of the witch -- the Princess. Again, not shocking or too creative. 2. The next spot on the adult list belongs to the Pirate. Walk into any Halloween store and you’ll see a thousand…

The Indians will host either Bremen or Crete-Monee in the IHSA Class 2A Sectional Championship, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.

Going into Tuesday's sectional semifinal, Lemont's varsity boys soccer team knew they would face a tough challenge against the fast and physical Washington High School. Junior Tommy Gasienica scored the game's only goal three minutes into the second half. Lemont head coach Rick Prangen said after the game that his team was lucky to pull out a victory despite being outpaced by Washington early in the game.
