Candidates in the Running for Local Races

Here's the final list of candidates who are running for village, school boards and fire, library and park districts in the April 9 election.

Here is a list of the candidates who have filed petitions to run in the April 9, 2013 election. Questionnaires have been mailed out to all the candidates, and Patch will share their answers, as well as some biographical information, in the weeks preceding the election. Open Seats: 5 (Village president, clerk and three trustees) Who Has Filed: For Village President: Incumbent Brian K. Dear Citizen, Let me attempt to set you straight on a few issues about the petition drive aimed at allowing Lemont citizens like yourself a chance to vote on a very expensive, 21 million dollar project. The Village Board and Mayor of Lemont are in fact responsible for the petition drive. Here's the final list of candidates who are running for village, school boards and fire, library and park districts in the April 9 election.

The filing period for municipal elections began Dec. 17, and as of the final filing date of Dec. 26, here are the candidates who have filed petitions to run in the April 9, 2013 election. Based on their comments it is important for the Petrarca, Bushnell and Clausen slate be honest with their campaign slogan. It is obvious that their "Kid's First" slogan is wrong and not true. Their real slogan should be one of the following, Lemont Tea Party First, Americans for Prosperity First, Dan Proft First or The Koch Brothers First. Any or all of these would apply. Lemont School Superintendent to Community: ‘We Will Work to Ensure Our Community That Lemont-Bromberek Schools Are Safe for Students, Staff and Visitors’

The killing of 20 children and six adults by a gunman who forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CN on Friday has prompted students and parents across the nation to ask, “Could it happen here?”

Sunday evening, Susan Birkenmaier, superintendent of Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A, sent a letter to parents to assure them that the district continues to be vigilant in its school safety efforts. Police vehicles will be present as District 113A schools focus on responding to student concerns and enforcing safety procedures – and psychologists and social workers will be on hand for students throughout the week, Birkenmaier said. Lemont Kindergarten Registration Packets Available Jan. 22 - Feb. 8.

Parents/guardians may register children by appointment only during select daytime and evening hours the week of Feb. 11.

The Kindergarten registration process for Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A will begin Tuesday, Jan. 22. Parents and/or guardians may pick up registration packets at Oakwood School, 1130 Kim Place, Lemont, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 22 through Feb. 8.
