Lemont Football Coach, Player Get Star Experience at Under Armour All-American Game

Ethan Pocic, the LSU football recruit, spent time in Florida this month with some of the best high school football players in the country. He was joined by his Lemont coach, Eric Michaelsen.

Ethan Pocic, the lumbering Lemont graduate and LSU-bound football recruit, was lauded by his coach for his toughness and willingness "to play through pain and sickness." That toughness is what helped the 6-foot-6, 290-pound left tackle land at LSU, one of the most consistently great college football teams in the country. At the Under Armour All-American Game earlier this month, that toughness was on display: Pocic fought through a virus he had and then dislocated his finger on the second play, though decided to sit out the rest of the time. "They told me, 'It's just an All-Star game, stay healthy,'" Pocic said, recalling his experience.  Although he didn't get to play the rest of the game, Pocic said he had a fantastic time in Florida. 6A Football Preview: Bengals, Indians Clash in IHSA 6A Quarterfinals

Oak Forest High School and Lemont High School met two times in the last 12 months, with the Indians topping the Bengals both times. This week, the familiar foes square off in Oak Forest, with the winner one step closer to the State title game.

Winner goes on, loser goes home. Those are the stakes for the showdown between the Oak Forest Bengals and the Lemont Indians on Saturday, Nov. 10. The familiar foes will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Oak Forest High School, where the pair previously met in Week 5 of the regular, a game that saw the Indians play spoiler to Oak Forest's homecoming with a last-second 17-14 victory. “That game, we played well, they played well,” said Oak Forest coach Brian McDonough. “It came down to a field goal at the end of the game.” The game is also a rematch of last year's IHSA second round meeting between the two clubs, which Lemont also won, 35-14. In Round 2 of the IHSA 6A playoffs last week, Oak Forest put on a rushing clinic against Shepard, piling up 457 …

Football: Lemont Loses on Missed Extra Point in OT

Lemont kicker Joe Hehir's missed extra point attempt cost the Indians a 21-20 loss in overtime to T-F South.

Breaking It Down: When Joe Hehir lined up for a 42-yard field goal with 8 seconds left in regulation to break a 14-14 tie with T-F South, Lemont fans had reason to feel confident. Even though the kicker had missed an attempt in the second quarter, Hehir had connected on over 50-yard field goals previously. He won the game for Lemont in a similar situation just a week earlier. But, he could only put his head down, as he walked back to the Lemont sideline after watching his kick bounce off the field goal post's bottom crossbar. T-F South was able to take advantage of its new life in overtime, and took a 21-14 lead after Joe Young broke a tackle on his way to a 2-yard touchdown. Lemont's offense did not flinch, scoring on a Mitch Balek 5-yard…

Football Photo Gallery: Lemont Stays Perfect in Big Win Over Oak Forest

Quarterback Damon Aleman passes for three touchdowns, leads the Indians to a 41-13 victory over Oak Forest.

Ho, hum. This final game of the regular season was all Lemont. Just like the first eight games ... Indians 41, Oak Forest 13. Indian quarterback Damon Aleman threw touchdown passes of 35, 39 and 73 yards. Tyler Jay caught two of the TD passes and Ricky Sniegowski hauled in the other. On defense, Lemont came up with four interceptions, two of which were picked off by Jake Lemming as the Indians ran their record to 9-0. Oak Forest had its moments on offense moving the ball, but turnovers stifled their drives. As the the game was nearing the end, quarterback Tom Zale and running back Matt Barry were able to rush into the end zone for the Bengals.  It was too little too late. Check out the action.
