The Lemont Village Board Monday night approved a preliminary bond ordinance to finance a $21 million indoor/outdoor sports facility proposed for the village’s downtown area. Mayor Brian Reaves predicts ground will be broken on the Lemont Sports Complex sometime in March – and hopes the project will be completed by November. “It’s a fast-track project,” Reaves said. “I want the facility to be ready to go for this fall’s indoor soccer.” Located on 26.3 acres on the former Tri Central Marine Terminal property, the sports complex is planned for a parcel of land roughly bounded by the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and Industrial Park Drive, from the end of Stephen Street north of the post office and continuing west under the Lemont Street …

Mr. Wall, Mr. Al Beaudreau is a community concerned Lemont resident and friend of mine and I take great exception to your labeling him a fake poster. On what evidence did you base your false assertion? You owe Mr. Beaudreau a swift and full apology.   more ›

Village staff is scheduled to complete move back to Main Street location by Jan. 23.

I just wanted to say that I have lived in Lemont since 1986 and have had no problems in the past. However, we are now living in Covington Knolls and one of my neighbors continually parks her car in her driveway blocking the sidwalk. This is a small matter, but it is a violation of our parking ordinace. The police issued a warning but told me to complain to the Building Code authorities in the …   more ›

Popular Lunch Spot Adding Alcohol to Menu

Village board gave Sweetwater Deli permission to soon begin offering beer and wine at its location in downtown Lemont.

The Lemont Village Board on Monday paved the way for Sweetwater to obtain a liquor license -- and Gioiosa expects to begin selling beer and wine at her downtown deli and café within a couple of weeks. “We will be selling wine by the glass, and also doing some off-the-shelf wine,” Gioiosa said. “We will also serve a couple of typical beers, like MGD, Corona and Heineken, as well as some specialty beers.” Since Gioiosa and her husband, Dan, opened the deli and café at 316 Canal St. in October 2010, Sweetwater has attracted a loyal …

The village took another step toward creating an enhanced gateway into the village out of a blighted industrial area between the I&M Canal and Archer Avenue. The Lemont Village Board Monday approved the purchase of property at 10990 Archer Avenue through a substitution purchase contract between the village, owner John Ratkovich Equities LP and the State Bank of Countryside, in the amount of $375,000. John...a little history for you. that area has been considered the large intestine of Cook County for years. It is where their junk yards, chemical plants and biker bars went. Lemont ran an expensive water line to the area and has decided to "save" it and create a "gateway" to our town. Wisdom? I don't know. We can look at some history that might be encouraging. One plan was to build an inlet off…   more ›
