Lemont Public Library Seeks Applicants to Fill Board Vacancies

The library board will appoint two members to serve the remainder of the term office, until May 2015.

The Lemont Public Library is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on its board of trustees. Appointees will serve the remainder of the term of office, until May 2015, according to library officials. Candidates must be a resident of the Lemont Public Library District. Applicants must submit a letter of interest stating their qualifications and interest in serving the library district no later than Monday, May 13. Professional resumes will also be accepted. Early Voting at Lemont Library Down from 2011

Only 419 votes were cast during early voting, according to unofficial results published by Cook County Clerk David Orr.

Early voting totals from the Lemont Public Library are down drastically this year from 2011. As of Sunday, the library had only 419 ballots cast between March 25 and April 6, the designated early voting period, according to Cook County Clerk David Orr.  The turnout is a far cry from the April 2011 election, when 1,511 early ballots were cast. That year, the library had the third highest turnout in Cook County behind Centennial Ice Rink in Wilmette and Chicago Heights City Hall. The 2011 election featured 10 candidates running for four vacant school board positions in Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. Voters were also faced with a $20 million working cash bond referendum for the district, which they ultimately voted down. This…

Jack, You think it's silly, which is fine, but I thought it was interesting that Lemont had such a high early voter turnout in 2011 (third in Cook County) and yet this year was actually in the mid-to-low range. Lemont Junior Woman’s Club Offers Scholarships

Local organization offers funds to Lemont students who demonstrate dedication to community service.

Lemont residents who demonstrate a dedication to community service could earn $1,000 in scholarship funds from the Lemont Junior Woman’s Club. The organization will award three scholarships in May to applicants who have made outstanding contributions to the community through volunteerism. Qualified applicants include residents of Lemont who are either high school seniors (men or women) or adult women returning to school. The LJWC’s review committee is seeking applicants with a history of community service, a demonstrated commitment to volunteerism and strong academic performance. Did your New Year’s resolution include getting more organized? If you have been busy purging items from your closets, basements, attics and toy rooms, Lemont Girl Scout Troop 361 has found a place for all the books and toys your kids may have outgrown. The troop, made up of 8- and 9-year-old girls who attend River Valley School, is conducting a used book and toy drive through Friday, Jan. 25 to benefit the Toy Box Connection in Orland Park. The girls have already collected more than 300 toys, books and stuffed animals simply by cleaning out their own closets and asking friends for donations. Set your frustrations aside and bring your device to the Lemont Public Library during January to receive one-on-one assistance with your iPad, iPhone, Kindle eReader, Kindle Fire, Nook ereader or Nook tablet.
