Petition Filing Begins Monday for Lemont Board Elections

In the consolidated election on April 9, 2013, voters will elect individuals to several Lemont municipal boards, including the village, school districts 113A and 210; and fire protection, library and park districts.

The first day is Monday, Dec. 17 for candidates to file petitions for election to Lemont municipal boards. Candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received. If simultaneous filings occur, lotteries will be held to determine ballot positions. Deadlines for filing petitions, objections have changed due to the holidays Originally, the last filing date for candidates in the April 9 municipal election was Dec. 24. But thanks to an amendment to the Illinois Election Code recently signed by Gov. Pat Quinn, those candidates won’t have to rush during the holidays to get their nominating petitions in – and municipal clerks won’t have to work until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve to accept the …

Lemont Park District invites community to inaugural Thanksgiving Day food drive and open house at The CORE Thursday.

Are you looking for a way to eat all the turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings you want on Thursday–but avoid the extra pounds those goodies might add? Lemont Park District has a solution for you:  a free open house at The CORE Fitness and Aquatic Complex, where you and your family can burn those excess calories before sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. The CORE will be open from 7 a.m. to noon Thursday to provide opportunities for individuals and families to take a class, go for a swim or work out at the fitness center. And here’s the best part: everyone who participates in the open house will be admitted free of charge when they bring in a food item to donate to the local food pantry. Free Fun at Fall Fest

Lemont Park District has plenty of activities planned for the entire family Saturday at Centennial Park.

What says Fall more than costume contests, scarecrow building, hayrides and s’mores around a bonfire? Lemont Park District’s third annual Fall Fest will offer all of these – and more – from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park, at 16028 W. 127th St. in Lemont. Get a Free Workout at The CORE on Sunday

Lemont Park District will launch new Les Mills fitness programs from 8-11:30 a.m.

The Lemont Park District CORE Fitness and Aquatics Complex at 16050 W. 127th St. in Lemont, will sponsor a free “launch” of its Les Mills fitness classes for men and women on Sunday. Founded by Les Mills, a four-time Olympian from New Zealand who opened his first gym in 1968, Les Mills group fitness and team training programs now operate in 14,000 clubs across 80 countries, with a mission to “create a fitter planet, one workout at a time.” At the Les Mills launch on Sunday, instructors Nicole Seidler, Julie Spadafora, Deanna Legan, Kim Fergusen and Selina Laurendi will promote new songs and exercises while providing the experience of group exercise for those who may not have experienced it before. Park District Dedicates New Playground

Ribbon cutting at Lions Park celebrates new play structures, refurbished amenities.

Lions Park at 60 W. Roberta St. just got a makeover – and judging from the smiles on the faces of kids at last week’s ribbon cutting – it’s a complete success. Renovations to the park’s playground, which began in late summer, include new play pieces manufactured by NuToys, as well as a resurfaced basketball court and landscaping. Lemont Park Board President Patrick Sexton welcomed members of the Lemont Lions Club, including club president John Goushas, as well as residents of all ages at the new Lions Park ribbon cutting ceremony last week. Lemont-Homer Glen Rotary Plans Craft Beer Tasting

Charity event will take place Sept. 27 at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club.

Have you ever thought of brewing your own beer at home? Do you love the taste of specialty craft beers? Here’s your chance to see presentations on the popular art of brewing, enjoy tasty appetizers and, best of all, sample unique craft beers – all while donating to a good cause. The Rotary Club of Lemont/Homer Glen is planning a charity craft beer tasting from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club, 1 Pete Dye Drive, Lemont. The event will also include a cash bar, 50/50 raffle, door prizes and auction. Snapshot: Sen. Christine Radogno Speaks with Area Seniors During Lemont Senior Event

Radogno and Rep. Jim Durkin co-hosted a free senior health fair at the CORE Fitness and Aquatic Complex on Wednesday.

More than a hundred area residents seeking information on how to plan for retirement and beyond attended a free Senior Health Fair hosted by Illinois Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) and Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) on Wednesday. The event was held at the Lemont Park District’s CORE Fitness and Aquatic Complex, 16050 W. 127th St., and featured refreshments, free heath screenings and information on assisted living, safety and financial security.  Radogno said in a news release that she enjoys hosting local events, which give her an opportunity to speak with attendees about a variety of issues. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  There are plenty of ways to keep up on Lemont news:
