Lemont PTO Plans Family Fitness Night Thursday

Bring the entire family to the River Valley/Oakwood school gym for an evening of fitness-related fun and games.

Are you faster than a fourth-grader? Grab your gym shoes and comfy clothes and be prepared to find out -- at Family Fitness Night on Thursday, Jan. 17. The free event, sponsored by Oakwood-River Valley PTO, will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the River Valley/Oakwood School gym at 15425 E 127th St. To help local families get active, the PTO will set up a variety of activity stations featuring hoops, dance, Karate, bags, hula hoop, soccer drills, jump rope, races, prizes and more. ‘Lemont Loves the Arts’ Highlights Student Talent

We're happy to share some of the creations of Lemont student-artists that were showcased Thursday night at Oakwood School. If you took photos at the open house and would like to share them, please feel free to upload them to this story.

The artistic creations of students from Oakwood, River Valley, Old Quarry, St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick, SS. Cyril and Methodius, Everest Academy and the Montessori School of Lemont were showcased at the “Lemont Loves the Arts” open house Thursday night at Oakwood School. Lemont PTO launched the Lemont Loves the Arts program in 2010 to bring students from all of the village’s schools together through art. The theme of the third annual showcase, submitted by Annie Koziel of Oakwood School, was “My Favorite Family Fun Is …” Drawing their inspiration from the theme, student-artists in grades K-8 created photography, dance, fine arts, music, literature, computer-generated art and videography. Old Quarry PTO, Student Council Pitch in for Campus Cleanup

Dozens of students, parents and teachers picked up trash and spruced up the landscaping around the school Thursday afternoon.

More than 50 students, parents and teachers volunteered their time Thursday for a campus cleanup at Old Quarry Middle School. The Lemont PTO and Old Quarry Student Council spent the sunny, warm afternoon pulling weeds, picking up trash, planting bulbs and spreading mulch around the school. "It’s exciting to have an event that brings us together in such a constructive way," said parent volunteer Laura Swalec. "With the staffing cuts, the custodial crew is not able to address the deteriorating landscape and litter issues. This project is giving the kids an opportunity to take pride in their school and make their learning environment inviting and refreshed."
