Indians, Bridwell Deliver with Game on the Line

Lemont sinks 6 of 6 free throws in the final 2:08 to seal the victory over Argo.

The longest shots Lemont’s Evan Bridwell hit on Tuesday night were from the free-throw line, and he drained a pair with 28.7 seconds left to give the Indians a two-possession lead against visiting Argo. Bridwell scored a game-high 19 points to lead Lemont past Argo, 46-45, in a South Suburban Conference crossover game. Driving layups and a put-back accounted for 14 of Bridwell’s points, while the remaining five came from the charity stripe. “I jokingly told them that all we need to do is have Evan score 30 points to win, and tonight it’s nice to win and Evan didn’t have to score 30,” Lemont coach Rick Runaas said. “They laughed about it, and we had contributions from a lot of people.” Lemont (7-9) led 34-27 after Germantas Valionis drained…

Romiti Leads Hinsdale South to Season-Opening Victory over Lemont

Sophomore dials in from long distance, drills 8 three-pointers and scores 29 points in the Hornets' 55-50 victory over the host Indians.

Toni Romiti doesn't know how she's going to shoot the basketball this season. But if Tuesday's season opener is any indication of what the sophomore is going to do with regularity, then it's going to be a fun season for Hinsdale South. Romiti drained eight 3-pointers to lead the visiting Hornets to a 55-50 victory over Lemont in the opener for both schools. After missing her first attempt from beyond the arc, Romiti connected on her next eight attempts. She added a successful layup and a 3-of-4 effort from the charity stripe to pace the Hornets with a career-best 29 points. "I just came to play and just shot the ball and they went in," Romiti said. "I want to average 15 points a game, and tonight I just shot when I was open. I never got a …

Lemont Wins Battle of Football Unbeatens

Indians knock off Oak Forest behind Medwed's 4 TDs, Fejedelem's key interception.

Lemont senior Clayton Fejedelem and his teammates more than had their hands full trying to slow down Oak Forest star receiver Tevin Coleman Friday night in Oak Forest. Yet it was Fejedelem and the Indians who left with the last laugh in the battle of the unbeatens. Fejedelem's interception of a Tim Longawa pass with just over two minutes left to play sealed the Indians' 35-21 South Suburban Blue victory. It was not until that point that Lemont could breathe easy after watching the Bengals' speedy Coleman keep the hosts in the game with dazzling touchdowns through the air, on the ground and even on an 85-yard kickoff return to open the second half. "No. 1 (Coleman) is fast, and we talked about him all week," Fejedelem. "He's pure speed. He …
