Lemont Senior Nabs Third-Place Medal at IHSA Journalism State Finals

Laura Harding finished third in the Editorial Writing category at the 2013 state finals, held Saturday at Eastern Illinois University.

For the third time in four years, a Lemont High School student has earned a medalist finish in journalism state finals competition. Senior Laura Harding, who serves as Head Editor and Editorials Editor of the school’s newspaper, finished third in the Editorial Writing category at the 2013 IHSA Journalism State Finals, which were contested on the campus of Eastern Illinois University on Saturday, April 26. Seniors Ashlee Berner, Jordan Gembara, Marisa Mars and Kayla Neetz also made their debuts in state finals competition. Harding advanced to the IHSA State Finals after finishing third in the Editorial Writing category at the IHSA Lewis University Sectional on April 20, and was one of 21 students from across the state competing in the event…

Lemont High School to 'Walk with Andrew' to Support Injured Student

Students and staff will participate in a 5K on Sunday to benefit sophomore Andrew Podczerwinski, who was left paralyzed from the waist down after a tragic accident last summer.

Lemont High School students and staff members will team up this weekend to support Andrew Podczerwinski, a sophomore fighting to regain his mobility following a tragic accident that left him paralyzed last summer. Podczerwinski, 16, was injured last June during a trip to a friend's cabin at Bass Lake in Bartlett, IL. The group was tubing and water-skiing on the lake when a severe storm quickly moved into the area. As they rushed to dock their boat and bring in the tubes, a gust of wind caused a tree to collapse on Podczerwinski and one of his friends. "I don't remember a lot of what happened after the tree fell," Podczerwinski said. "All I know is that it went from being this great day to a storm that changed my whole life." The tree …

The Lemont freshman captured the school's first event title since 2011 at the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference, held April 12-13 in Springfield, IL.

Lemont High School freshman Olivia Matthews captured a state title earlier this month during the 2013 Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference. Students from Lemont placed among the top ten in 15 of the 19 categories in which they were entered at the FBLA conference, which was held April 12-13 in Springfield, IL. The event attracted more than 1,450 student competitors from across the state, making it the state’s largest FBLA conference ever. Matthews was the state’s top performer in the Public Speaking I category. Her win marked the first event state title for Lemont since 2011 and  only the ninth in the chapter's short history. Lemont High School Baseball Team to Hold Mattress Fundraiser

The baseball team will sell brand new mattresses at discounted prices on Sunday, April 28.

The Lemont High School baseball program will hold a unique fundraiser Sunday that will allow its supporters to "rest easy." Head coach Brian Storako’s program will hold its first-ever Mattress Fundraiser Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in the school’s field house, 800 Porter St. Proceeds will directly benefit Lemont High School’s conference champion baseball program. All mattresses available will be brand new with their factory warranties. Prices will be set between 30-and 60-percent off of the regular retail cost. A wide variety of quality, name brand mattresses—including pillow-top, orthopedic, latex, gel beds and memory foam sets—will be available for purchase. Lemont High School Students to Compete in National 'Mock Firm' Competition

Students will represent Lemont in the National High School Skyscraper Challenge in Chicago on Thursday and Friday.

A team of students from Lemont High School is in the final stages of preparing for what has become an annual appearance for the school in one of the nation’s top architectural design contests. Seniors Brian Dirst, Szymon Krzeptowski-Mucha, Scott Matulik, Bryan Shamasko, Ray Stieber and Justin Stanwyck will represent the school in the National High School Skyscraper Challenge division at the 2013 Mock Firms Architectural Competition, which will be contested at Chicago’s Congress Plaza Hotel on Thursday and Friday. The competition is sponsored by Chicago Architecture Today. In its fifth year, the Mock Firms competition helps both high school and college students simulate architectural design firms. Lemont High School Speech Team to Host Annual 'Faculty Idol' Competiton

Student/faculty groups will sing and dance on the Performing Arts Center Stage on Friday to raise money for the award-winning speech program.

Lemont High School students and faculty members will team up this Friday for the Speech program's annual "Faculty Idol" music competition. "Faculty Idol 7" will include singing and dance numbers from as many as 10 faculty/student duets or groups. This year, the show will put all musical performance styles back on the table. More than 10 faculty/student duets or groups are slated to appear, and anything—from karaoke to dancing to riffs from a good ol’ rock n’ roll band—can happen. Every Faculty Idol entry must include at least one Lemont High School faculty or staff member, but there is no limit to the number of groups with whom those faculty and staff can perform. Lemont School Districts Improve in State Financial Rankings

Lemont High School District 210 and Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A, received the highest and second-highest financial ratings, respectively, after a review by the Illinois State Board of Education.

A statewide financial analysis by the Illinois State Board of Education resulted in improved ratings for both Lemont school districts for fiscal year 2012. Lemont High School District 210 was placed in Financial Recognition, the highest financial designation in the ISBE Financial Profile. The district had previously earned Financial Review status, which ranks just below Recognition, for fiscal years 2007 through 2011. Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A also made strides in the eyes of the state board. ISBE officials placed the district under Financial Review, a step above last year's Early Warning rating and a vast improvement from 2009 and 2010, when it was placed on the state's Financial Watch list.  The annual Financial …
