Based on their comments it is important for the Petrarca, Bushnell and Clausen slate be honest with their campaign slogan. It is obvious that their "Kid's First" slogan is wrong and not true. Their real slogan should be one of the following, Lemont Tea Party First, Americans for Prosperity First, Dan Proft First or The Koch Brothers First. Any or all of these would apply. Or maybe Throw Lemont …   more ›

Lemont’s “Keep the Wreath Red" program is a visual reminder to residents to take additional safety precautions to make this a safe and happy holiday season. Once again this year, thanks to the generosity of the Lemont Garden Club, each fire station in the Lemont Fire District displays a beautiful holiday wreath decorated with red bulbs. During the season, if a home fire is caused by holiday decorations, one red bulb will be changed to a white bulb. “While here in Lemont we have been blessed to have remained safe during my years as chief, I am reminded according …

Churulo has become accustomed to arriving to work at 5:30 a.m. and putting in 11- to 12-hour days. But when the busy fire chief retires from the Lemont Fire District Aug. 15, 2013, how will he fill his spare time? Traveling? Reading? Fishing? Running for office, Churulo said. And he’s already out gathering signatures on petitions in his hometown of Romeoville – and counting on his fellow citizens to elect him to the Romeoville Village Board next spring. “I’m not a politician, even though I’m running,” Churulo said. “I love…

It took the Lemont Fire Protection District just three minutes to respond to Maxine Splitt, a next-door neighbor of Station One who went into cardiac arrest in May.
For the past 36 years, Lemont resident Maxine Splitt has lived just yards away from the Lemont Fire Protection District's Station One on New Avenue. Splitt, 74, has gotten to know her firefighter neighbors pretty well over the years. In 2005, crews responded to an electrical fire that posed a serious threat to her life and home. However, Splitt's proximity to the fire station was never more crucial than it was on May 31, 2012, the day she went into cardiac arrest. Just after 7 a.m., Splitt suddenly went unconscious while sitting in her living room with her sister, Lemont resident Mary Beth Splitt. "I don't remember anything about what happened, but my sister said I just fell back in my chair and stopped breathing," Maxine said. Mary Beth …
