Lemont Fire Protection District Receives Grant from Department of Homeland Security

Congressman Dan Lipinski announced April 19 that the district was awarded a $12,500 grant to purchase a new thermal imaging camera and a specialized washing machine.

The Lemont Fire Protection District has received a federal grant to purchase new camera equipment, Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) announced Friday. The $12,500 grant, awarded through the Department of Homeland Security, will be used to purchase a new thermal imaging camera so firefighters can better see flames and trapped victims in smoke-filled rooms, Lipinski said in a release. Lipinski said the grant will also allow the fire protection district to purchase a specialized washing machine to clean gear that has been used to respond to fires and incidents involving hazardous material. “Our first responders play a critical role in keeping our communities safe. Providing them with the equipment they need to do their jobs is one of my highest…

Michelle, You are a liar. There was never an email written or sent, because you made it up. Susan Petrarca never wrote one or sent one. " She claimed she came across it from someone else. I asked her to get her facts straight & to stop contacting me." You claim to have corresponded with Susan. Produce the email and I will retract my statement. But I know you won't, because you can't because it is…   more ›

Lemont Firefighters Shave Heads to Fight Childhood Cancer

Fourteen members of "Team Rockstar" shaved their heads and raised nearly $6,000 Saturday in memory of Macy Ganz, the daughter of Lemont firefighter Christian Ganz.

For the fifth year in a row, members of the Lemont Fire Protection District banded together to raise money for childhood cancer research and pay tribute to the late daughter of one of their own. Fourteen members of Team Lemont Fire, affectionately known as "Team Rockstar," shaved their heads at the Bolingbrook Golf Club on Saturday for the seventh annual "Bolingbrook 4 Kids" St. Baldrick's fundraiser. The group raised nearly $6,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a national non-profit organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. For Team Lemont Fire, the St. Baldrick's event is deeply personal. In March 2008, 11-month-old Macy Ganz—the daughter of longtime Lemont firefighter Christian Ganz—was diagnosed with stage 4 …

Electrical Fire Damages Home in Lemont

Lemont firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday morning in the 1200 block of St. Brendan's Court.

No one was injured Sunday morning in a fire that broke out in Lemont's Abbey Oaks subdivision. The Lemont Fire Protection District responded around 7 a.m. to a home in the 1200 block of Brendan's Court, where a fire had apparently started in the electrical system. The fire caused significant damage to the home, leaving it uninhabitable, according to fire officials. Lemont Fire Chief Carl Churulo said a man was home when the fire started, but he was able to exit without injury. A firefighter was treated for dehydration during the blaze, Churulo said. Dear Citizen, Let me attempt to set you straight on a few issues about the petition drive aimed at allowing Lemont citizens like yourself a chance to vote on a very expensive, 21 million dollar project. The Village Board and Mayor of Lemont are in fact responsible for the petition drive. They created a situation that gave anyone who might be unconvinced by their plan only one avenue of recourse, …   more ›
