Kim Gannon has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, while Ethan Parafink, Justin Stanwyck and Lynn Stanwyck all were cited with National Merit Commended Students distinction.
Four Lemont High School seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their performance on the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Kim Gannon was cited as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, while Ethan Parafink, Justin Stanwyck and Lynn Stanwyck all were cited with National Merit Commended Students distinction. According to Tony Hamilton, director of school and community relations for District 210, the scores compiled by Lemont High School’s four honorees ranked them among the top five percent of all students in the United States who took the PSAT/NMSQT in 2011. Lemont High School junior Justin Stanwyck, 16, recently improved running and walking conditions on Centennial Campus as part of his Eagle Scout service project.
A Lemont High School junior will soon achieve the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout after completing a service project to refurbish a Lemont Park District walking trail. Justin Stanwyck, 16, began work in November 2010 to clean up the trail through the woodsy area of Centennial Campus, 16028 W. 127th St., which serves Old Quarry Middle School students and members of the Lemont community. As a member of Lemont Boy Scout Troop 149, Stanwyck was required to complete a community service project to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He decided to work on the trail to make it more appealing to walkers, hikers and runners, park district officials said.
