A culvert replacement project in Lockport will require closing a portion of Route 171 (State Street) for three months beginning July 5, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Tuesday. The street will be closed to through traffic between 7th and 8th streets. Access to residences, businesses and side streets north and south of Milne Creek will be maintained. Detour routes will be posted. The ramp from Lemont Road to New Avenue near downtown Lemont was shut down early this week, just days before it was scheduled to be closed for pavement patching. Lemont Public Works Director Ralph Pukula said workers were forced to close the Illinois Street ramp due to "unforseen issues" with a New Avenue water main project. Beginning next week, the ramp from Lemont Road to New Avenue near downtown Lemont will be closed for pavement patching, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced. The Illinois Street ramp is expected to be closed Sept. 19-26 for manhole repairs at the intersection of Illinois and State streets, according to an IDOT press release. The Lemont Public Works Department is urging drivers to avoid the intersection of State and Illinois streets Wednesday as workers continue the installation of a new water main. Construction began Monday and was originally expected to be completed Tuesday. Traffic will be affected from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, said Ralph Pukula, director of Lemont Public Works.
