Board members clashed during a workshop Tuesday night while discussing the district's strategic plan and its outlined allocation of resources.
Disagreement over staffing and technology needs in Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A forced board members to reach a compromise on its pending five-year strategic plan—one that involves hiring one more staff member than was originally recommended by administrators. Lemont High School District 210 and Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A, received the highest and second-highest financial ratings, respectively, after a review by the Illinois State Board of Education.
A statewide financial analysis by the Illinois State Board of Education resulted in improved ratings for both Lemont school districts for fiscal year 2012. Lemont High School District 210 was placed in Financial Recognition, the highest financial designation in the ISBE Financial Profile. The district had previously earned Financial Review status, which ranks just below Recognition, for fiscal years 2007 through 2011. Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A also made strides in the eyes of the state board. ISBE officials placed the district under Financial Review, a step above last year's Early Warning rating and a vast improvement from 2009 and 2010, when it was placed on the state's Financial Watch list. Arbitrary "cut" scores are changing to align ISAT scores with ACT and PARCC assessments. That means students' and schools' performance grades are likely to drop in the categories of English and math.
Don't be surprised if students in Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A drop from "exceeds standards" to "meets standards" or from "meets" to "below" standards in the Illinois Standard Achievement Tests (ISAT). The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in January approved new cut scores that will help align the ISAT results with those of the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE) —colloquially called the ACT test—given to 11th graders, and establish a foundation for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exam set to debut in the 2014-15 school year. The higher expectations of the new ISAT cut scores will cause a downward shift in the number of students who meet or exceed standards. According…

Exactly Hank, I don't get why we need a PR person when we get information for free on Patch (who puts out any press releasese sent to them by the district) and The Lemont Reporter Community Voices. Why would any taxpayer want to pay for something that they are getting for free right now? This is not warranted for 2500 kids.   more ›
