Prior to the 2011 season, Lemont High School had not advanced a boys’ tennis player past the first day of state finals competition. Now, the Indians have done it three straight seasons. Sophomore Nick Urban won two of three matches on the first day of competition at the 2013 IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which are being hosted by High School Districts 211 and 214. Urban will continue play in the tournament’s consolation bracket on Friday, May 24, and is guaranteed to finish among the top 32 singles players in the state. This marks the eighth straight season that Lemont has been represented in the IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals. The score: Lemont 1, Oak Forest 0 The way it happened: The South Suburban Blue conference title was on the line Thursday as Lemont took on rival Oak Forest. Lemont needed a victory to take the crown; a loss would have meant a three-way tie with Oak Forest and Tinley Park. After sharing the title with Oak Forest last year and repeatedly finishing second in years past, the Indians finally came out on top with a 1-0 win Thursday—ending the Bengals' eight-year reign as conference champions. Lemont improved to 21-5 on the season and 17-2 in conference play. The Bengals slipped to 20-14 overall and 15-4 in South Suburban Blue. Laura Harding finished third in the Editorial Writing category at the 2013 state finals, held Saturday at Eastern Illinois University.
For the third time in four years, a Lemont High School student has earned a medalist finish in journalism state finals competition. Senior Laura Harding, who serves as Head Editor and Editorials Editor of the school’s newspaper, finished third in the Editorial Writing category at the 2013 IHSA Journalism State Finals, which were contested on the campus of Eastern Illinois University on Saturday, April 26. Seniors Ashlee Berner, Jordan Gembara, Marisa Mars and Kayla Neetz also made their debuts in state finals competition. Harding advanced to the IHSA State Finals after finishing third in the Editorial Writing category at the IHSA Lewis University Sectional on April 20, and was one of 21 students from across the state competing in the event…

Lemont and Oak Forest high schools met twice in the past 12 months, with Lemont coming out on top both times. On Saturday, the rivals will square off in Oak Forest, with the winner one step closer to the State title.

Lemont will meet Richards High School in the second round of the 2012 Illinois High School Association playoffs at 6 p.m. Saturday at Oak Lawn. If you can’t make it to the game, we’re streaming it live!
No. 3 seed Lemont High School (9-1) will travel to Oak Lawn to battle No. 2 seed Richards High School (9-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday in the second round of the 2012 Illinois High School Association state playoffs. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with kick-off at 6 p.m. General admission costs $5 per person. Richards High School is located at 10601 S. Central Ave. in Oak Lawn. All second-round games will be played Friday, Nov. 2, or Saturday, Nov. 3, according to the IHSA. IHSA announced the first-round playoff pairings for the state football playoffs Saturday night.
After nine weeks of surprises, comebacks and powerhouses getting the job done, it's time to start the season that matters: the playoffs. The 256 high school football teams that qualified for the Illinois state playoffs learned their fate Saturday night when the first-round playoff pairings were announced. Teams are split into eight classes of 32 schools each based on enrollment. Class 1A is the schools with the lowest enrollment, and Class 8A has the highest. There's no other way to look at it: Class 8A is stacked with talented teams and lots of rematches. The top half of the bracket features the top two ranked teams in state in Maine South and Loyola Academy. The bottom half includes defending state champion Bolingbrook, which could be …
