What Businesses Would You Like to See in the Front Street Lofts?

In a new weekly series, Patch asks readers how they would fill empty storefronts around Lemont.

Last month, Lemont Patch readers offered dozens of great suggestions for the empty Sears building on State Street, as well as the old Wendy's, as part of our new "Vision for Vacancies" series. This week, we're shifting our focus to the Front Street Lofts in downtown Lemont. The Lofts boast 82 residences and more than 24,000-square feet of retail space. The condos are nearly full—only a dozen remain on the market—but there is still plenty of commercial place for future restaurants, shops or offices. Front Street Cantina, Edward Jones Investments and the Front Street Lofts office currently occupy three of the main storefronts along Front Street, but there is still plenty of space for rent. Save Some Green with Local St. Patrick's Day Specials

Lemont businesses are celebrating the Irish holiday Saturday with food and drink specials, live entertainment and activities for the whole family.

From Irish beer to corned beef and cabbage, local restaurants are celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a variety of deals and special events. Here's a roundup of some specials around Lemont: The restaurant will host its second annual Shamrocks and Shenanigans Fest beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Specials include $4 20-ounce drafts of six different Irish beers, and $5 Jameson and Ginger's. The party is open to the whole family. Kids eat for $2, and activities include face painting and balloon twisting by Mr. Bob. The event will also feature live music by Nebulous Forming from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mexican food for St. Patrick's Day? From a downtown parade to multiple fundraisers, Saturday is shaping up to be one of Lemont's busiest days of the year. Warrior Booster Club Gears Up for 'March Madness' Fundraisers

The organization will host its second annual charity basketball game Saturday, followed by March Madness Night at Front Street Cantina on Friday, March 16.

The Warrior Booster Club is gearing up for back-to-back weekends of "March Madness" events to raise money for extracurricular activities in Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. At 6 p.m. Saturday, the Old Quarry Middle School boys and girls basketball teams will take on "the Village People" for the school's second annual charity basketball game. The event will be held in the Old Quarry gymnasium, 16100 W. 127th St. The opposing team will include former Lemont Mayor John Piazza, Trustee Cliff Miklos, village staff, firefighters, police officers and teachers. Family of Fallen Firefighter Christopher Wheatley Expands Scholarship Program

A fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. March 10 at Front Street Cantina to raise money for the FF/PM Christopher D. Wheatley Memorial Foundation.

Family and friends of fallen Chicago firefighter Christopher Wheatley will continue to honor his memory in the coming years with the expansion of a memorial scholarship program. Almost immediately after the 31-year-old Lemont native died battling a West Loop blaze in August 2010, several family members set up a scholarship fund for students at Lemont High School, from which Christopher graduated in 1997. In May 2011, the FF/PM Christopher D. Wheatley Memorial Foundation awarded its first two $1,000 scholarships—one for a student-athlete and one for a student interested pursuing a career in medicine or fire science. This year, the foundation will again award scholarships to a pair of Lemont High School seniors, but will expand the program …

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Old Quarry Middle School LRC, 16100 W. 127th St. For the complete agenda, visit www.sd113a.org. Shop Local at Lemont Holiday Events

Still need to find gifts for friends and family? "Shop 'Til You Drop" and "Midnight Madness" will feature plenty of local vendors this weekend.

With the holidays right around the corner, several Lemont businesses and organizations are encouraging residents to "shop local" at special events this week. The Lemont Park District is hosting its annual "Shop 'Til You Drop" event Thursday at the CORE Fitness and Aquatic Complex, 16050 W. 127th St. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the gym will be packed with more than 20 vendors offering everything from home goods to jewelry. Confirmed vendors include Tupperware, Premier Designs Jewelry, Tastefully Simple, Longaberger, Scentsy Candles, Mary Kay, Jockey, Party Lite, Covered in Chocolate and Votre Vu. A pit bull was dropped off at the Lemont Police Department last week. The dog was found at Valley View Drive and Smith Road. The dog is currently being held at the Animal Welfare League, 10305 Southwest Highway in Chicago Ridge. If you are the owner or if you know the owner, contact the Animal Welfare League at 708-636-8586 or the Lemont Police Department at 630-257-2229. The Village of Lemont announced this week that Canadian National Railway will be making final repairs to the tracks at the Holmes Street railroad crossing on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
