The Lemont Firemen’s Association would like to extend their gratitude to the Jewel Food Store, Lemont location, and their patrons, for supporting the food and toy drive this past Saturday, Dec.15. Food donations and $405 in cash were delivered to the Bethany Lutheran Church Food Pantry. The toys were given to Earl Anderson (a.k.a. Annual event for all ages will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday in historic downtown Lemont.
There will be plenty of free fun and festivities for the entire family at Lemont’s annual Hometown Holiday event, which will be held in the village’s historic downtown from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday. In the true spirit of the season, Hometown Holiday is as much about giving as receiving. This year, the Lemont Girl Scouts Community Service Unit 24 will sponsor a variety of charitable activities, including “Cards to Heroes” as well as a toy collection and food drive. The Cards to Heroes mini-event will take place throughout the day at Community Christian Church at 102 Stephen St, across from Stonehouse Pub. Girl Scout Event Chairwoman Betty Slad encourages all ages to stop by and create or sign a card or note to be sent to U.S. military troops …

This food drive is an easy one. As easy as putting out the mail. It's even easier, because you don't need a stamp. On Saturday, May 12, Lemont letter carriers will join in the effort to Stamp Out Hunger, a nationwide effort to combat hunger. To participate in the 20th Stamp Out Hunger food drive, residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 12. All donations will be split between the food pantries at Lemont United Methodist Church, 25 W. The St. Alphonsus-St. Patrick-St. Cyril youth football organization swept their games against St. Mary's of Riverside on Saturday at the Lemont High School football stadium.
The Lemont Celtics Youth Football program had a successful homecoming Saturday night, sweeping all four of its games and collecting hundreds of items for the Lemont Open Food Pantries. McDonald's restaurants may proudly boast “Over a Billion Served,” but the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) can say the same when it comes to pounds of food collected for the needy. Since 1993 the NALC has collected more than one billion pounds of food through its annual nationwide event, "Stamp Out Hunger" – America’s largest single-day food drive. This Saturday, more than 1,500 NALC branches from every state, involving more than 10,000 cities and towns, will have more than 230,000 letter carriers collect non-perishable goods from people’s mailboxes. Well, I left our donation out and the mailman did not take it. I tried to wave him down, but he did not stop. About and hour later when my husband had stopped a carrier about having someone come get our donation.....he took our info to where we lived and told us someone will be there. Guess what no one came.
