Lemont Junior Woman’s Club Celebrates 20 Years of Giving

Not-for-profit organization, providing cultural, educational, civic and philanthropic services to Lemont and its residents.

The Lemont Junior Woman’s Club is kicking off the new year – and newly elected club president Jill McAndrews is acknowledging and honoring the club’s history while looking toward the future through the theme, “Grounded, Growing, Giving.” Established in 1993 by 50 charter members, the LJWC began by dedicating itself to establishing a permanent site for its Safety Village programs. Today, the building at 55 Stephen St.  hosts a variety of local groups, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports clubs and more. In 1998, the club began sponsoring the Lemont Juniorettes, a service group for young women ages 12 through 18. Sept. 20: District 113A Meeting, Farmers Market, 'Fighting Chance' Workshop

Five things every Lemonter needs to know Tuesday.

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will hold its monthly business meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the River Valley All-Purpose Room, 15425 E. 127th St. The weekly Lemont Farmers Market continues today in the Talcott Square parking lot. The market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information, including a complete list of vendors. The Lemont Junior Woman's Club, Lemont Police Department and Lemont Fire Protection District are co-sponsoring a class next month to teach children how to prevent and escape abduction. "A Fighting Chance" will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 418 Main St. The event costs $35 and is for children ages 9-15. A registration form can be…
