Only 419 votes were cast during early voting, according to unofficial results published by Cook County Clerk David Orr.
Early voting totals from the Lemont Public Library are down drastically this year from 2011. As of Sunday, the library had only 419 ballots cast between March 25 and April 6, the designated early voting period, according to Cook County Clerk David Orr. The turnout is a far cry from the April 2011 election, when 1,511 early ballots were cast. That year, the library had the third highest turnout in Cook County behind Centennial Ice Rink in Wilmette and Chicago Heights City Hall. The 2011 election featured 10 candidates running for four vacant school board positions in Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. Voters were also faced with a $20 million working cash bond referendum for the district, which they ultimately voted down. This…

Frank Flores, Jr. was terminated from the College of DuPage for a disorderly conduct incident; he claims the investigation was “cursory” and the charges “malicious and unsubstantiated.”
A candidate in the contested election for College of DuPage Board of Trustees was previously fired from the college’s aquatics department after multiple people alleged incidents of verbal and/or physical sexual harassment, the Daily Herald reports. According to the paper, Frank Flores Jr. was employed as a temporary assistant aquatics manager in fall 2010 until a female lifeguard reported verbal sexual harassment, a claim corroborated by another female student, and a male student who also alleged physical harassment. A patron filed a separate complaint that Flores had made comments to her like, “I want to taste you” and “I peed in the pool,” the paper said. No criminal charges were filed, but after an investigation, Flores was fired on …

The Friends for Education COD Faculty Association PAC is endorsing challengers over two incumbents; the incumbents warn of the danger of a faculty-endorsed Board.
A College of DuPage faculty political-action committee has endorsed challengers Ed Agustin and Frank Flores Jr. for the COD Board over incumbents Dave Carlin and Joe Wozniak (and other candidates Kathy Hamilton and Mike Lanners). The endorsement has become a bone of contention between the candidates, the Daily Herald reports. According to the paper, the endorsements made by Friends for Education COD Faculty Association PAC are notable, contentious and perhaps a double-edged sword in an election coming after 16 months of negotiations that led to a teachers' contract imposed on faculty without union approval last May. Both sides worked out a new deal that was unanimously approved in June. "The board is elected by the community. It's not …

Residents hope to slow down mayor’s ‘fast track’ proposal to issue bonds to build a $21 million sports facility in downtown Lemont by letting voters decide the issue.
A group of a dozen or so Lemont residents filed petitions at Village Hall Wednesday morning in an effort to put the village’s proposed $21 million sports complex to a vote March 18, 2014. Janet Hughes, who spearheaded a petition drive along with Hank Olenick, Jim Ladas and more than a dozen others, said the group turned in 185 pages of petitions signed by 1,675 residents. The petitions seek to allow voters to decide whether the village should issue up to $21 million in alternate revenue bonds to finance the sports facility. Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves Jan. 28 unveiled a proposal to build the indoor/outdoor sports complex in the village’s downtown area. Reaves said he hoped to put the project on a “fast track” and begin construction of the …

Jack, You think it's silly, which is fine, but I thought it was interesting that Lemont had such a high early voter turnout in 2011 (third in Cook County) and yet this year was actually in the mid-to-low range. I agree that there was more to be voting on then, i.e. the referendum, which I pointed out. It is regular practices for news organizations to report on voter turnout, early voting included…   more ›
