Many Lemont residents are already familiar all the amenities their community has to offer – and village officials and staff are eager to share that information with a wider audience.
For more than a year, Village Trustee Paul Chialdikas led efforts to put Lemont on the map through a marketing campaign designed to attract new residents to the community. And through the trustee’s work with village staff and local resident Laura Swalec, co-owner of the PlumThree marketing agency, the interactive website “ilivelemont” was born. According to Chialdikas, the website's development, ongoing maintenance and updates are being funded by a $25,000 marketing line item in the village budget. He said about $5,000 remains in the line item following ilivelemont's development. Last week, the village officially launched the interactive website, which is designed to put the spotlight on Lemont and highlight the positive things the …

Briarcliffe Townhomes, located at the northeast corner of 127th Street and Thornberry Drive, will include 34 townhomes on 4.76 acres.
Construction is underway on Lemont's first new subdivision in six years, village officials announced earlier this month. Briarcliffe Townhomes, located at the northeast corner of 127th Street and Thornberry Drive, will comprise 34 townhomes across 4.76 acres. The development is village's first new subdivision since 2006. The last time more than 40 new housing units were constructed in Lemont was in 2008, according to village officials. The Lemont Village Board approved preliminary plans for the subdivision in September 2009. Last year, McNaughton Development sold the site to M/I Homes, a national homebuilder that until recently had primarily built homes in the eastern region of the United States. Final plans for Briarcliffe were approved …

Two freight companies will also move their corporate headquarters to Lemont this year, village officials announced Monday night.
The Village of Lemont is preparing for a wave of new businesses in 2012. Mayor Brian Reaves announced four new businesses—Goodwill, ATI Physical Therapy, Art Logistics and Unlimited Carrier—during the village board meeting Monday night, and said plans should be finalized in the next two weeks for an additional three. Reaves said the village has been working recently with several companies, including major retailers, that are interested in bringing their business to Lemont. "There's a lot of stuff going on. I wish I could announce everything that comes across my desk ... on a weekly basis," he said. "Some stuff is pie in the sky, some stuff is exciting, some stuff you look at and think, 'Could we pull that off? Could we not pull that off?' …

Owner Tom Gangas was not immediately available for comment. Slammers Pub and Grill opened in fall 2010, and celebrated its grand opening in December 2010. Also closing its doors in Lemont was Salon Moda, located at 12371 Derby Road in the Riley's Pointe shopping plaza. On Tuesday, a sign posted on the door read, "We are closed due to unforeseen circumstances with lease. Sorry for any inconvenience." Salon …

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin held a news conference at Anderson's Bookshop in Naperville to talk about proposed legislation that would require Internet businesses to collect state and local sales tax.
Anderson's Bookshop in Naperville was the setting for U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin's news conference Friday where he discussed the Marketplace Fairness Act, legislation that would require out of state Internet businesses to collect state and local sales tax. Anderson's is representative of the small, local brick-and-mortar businesses across the state and the country that collect sales taxes, he said, adding that their online competitors have an unfair advantage because they do not collect sales taxes, Durbin said. Durbin said he has been working for some time with other senators from both parties to craft legislation that would effectively address the issue. Online retailer Amazon.com is on board with the legislation because it would be uniform …

From new superintendents to the upcoming election, here's a look at five issues sure to impact the Lemont community this year.
What Happened in 2011 If there was one topic that dominated the headlines in 2011, it was Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A. The year started off with a hotly contested school board race, in which nine candidates squared off for the board's four open seats. Coming out on top April 5 were four newcomers: Mike Aurelio, Al Malley, Dave Molitor and Cindy Kelly. After several rounds of budget cuts and the reduction of borrowing, it appeared the district's financial situation was improving going into the 2011-12 school year. In August, however, Ricker learned that the Illinois State Board of Education was considering a financial oversight panel for District 113A. After discussions with State Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) and Rep…

A "Lemont 2030" workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall, 418 Main St.
Employees with the Village of Lemont are seeking input from residents this week as they continue the process of updating the village's comprehensive plan. A public workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall, 418 Main St., to discuss preliminary drafts and suggestions for the village's lastest comprehensive plan — titled "Lemont 2030." The village began the planning process earlier this fall with community survey, which asked residents about their thoughts on Lemont, what they love about the community, what they would like to see changed and what their vision is for the village in the year 2030. Between Sept. 20 and Oct. 23, more than 400 individuals filled out the survey, according to Village Planner Charity Jones. The …

Great website, but how does a potential new resident find it? It doesn't show up in a Google search, and there's no link to it on the mail village site.   more ›
