Construction to Begin on Long-Awaited McCarthy-Walker Project

Work will begin April 15 on signal and lane upgrades at the busy Lemont intersection, thanks in part to a $1.7 million capital investment from the state.

Construction is finally set to begin at one of Lemont's busiest intersections. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced March 28 that it will contribute about $1.7 million through its Illinois Jobs Now! program to upgrade the intersection of McCarthy and Walker roads. The project is scheduled to begin April 15 and should be complete by the end of October 2013, according to state officials. The village is expected to kick in about $60,000 for the project, which has been in the works for five years. "The McCarthy-Walker Road project will undoubtedly enhance the traffic flow and safety of …

I hope and trust that the very dangerous deep ditch with a concrete abutment (manhole) in it will be moved, eliminated or otherwise made safe at the corner of McCarthy and Derby. I have complained about this "fatal accident waiting to happen" danger for some time, but never corrected by the village, county or state.   more ›

Renovations Set to Begin on Lemont Village Hall

Asst. Village Administrator George Schafer said officials were expected to conduct the final walkthrough with contractors so construction could begin this week.

Renovations are expected to begin this week on Lemont Village Hall, officials confirmed Monday. Village officials approved several bids for the rehabilition project during their July 9 board meeting. Triangle Project on Hold as Village Awaits Go-Ahead from IDOT

Work on the McCarthy Road, Archer Avenue and Derby Road intersection is being delayed while IDOT waits to acquire a small parcel of right-of-way, Lemont officials said.

The long-planned triangle construction project at the intersection of Archer Avenue and McCarthy and Derby roads is being delayed as the state waits to acquire a small piece of land, Lemont officials said Monday. Village Engineer Jim Cainkar said Lemont has done everything on its end to move forward with the project, which will improve road and sidewalk conditions along the busy triangle intersection. However, the Illinois Department of Transportation—which is reponsible for bidding the project and construction—has delayed construction as it waits to acquire a small parcel of right-of-way, Cainkar said. Construction can not move forward until the right-of-way is acquired by the state, according to village officials. The triangle project …

I agree--that intersection is awful! But for those of us who live on Illinois St., where all of the trucks are being rerouted, I would sure love some police patrol when all is settled! The trucks FLY down this 25-30mph street and squeal their brakes at the stop sign. A little loud and a little scary...especially with kids playing outside.   more ›
