Senior Connor O'Brien has posted a perfect 4.0 GPA through seven semesters, in addition to leading the football team to a collective 34-4 record from 2010-12.
With his work in the classroom and on the football field, Lemont High School senior Connor O’Brien has distinguished himself as one of the top student athletes in school history. O'Brien's efforts were recently rewarded when he was named one of just three area recipients of this year’s National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award. He received his honor at the NFF Chicago Metro Chapter Annual Awards Ceremony, which was held on Feb. 18 in Westchester. Lincoln-Way East’s Nick Colangelo and Batavia’s Zach Strittmater also were honored at the event. Tim McAuliffe, Connor O’Brien, Jake Lemming - Football Three Lemont High School seniors have received scholarships to play college football beginning in 2013. Offensive lineman Tim McAuliffe (6’2”, 275) signed a National Letter of Intent with Bowling Green State University; linebacker Connor O’Brien (6’2”, 205) signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of North Dakota; and defensive back Jake Lemming (5’10”, 160) has received a scholarship to play at Saint Xavier University. Ethan Pocic, a Parade All-American who was one of the top offensive line recruits in the country, graduated in December and already has enrolled at Louisana State University. Lemont is one win away from advancing to the 6A IHSA championship game after its 21-14 victory over rival Oak Forest on Saturday night.
Breaking It Down: Lemont looked like the more dominant team on the Oak Forest Bengals' field during the first half of their matchup. The Bengals were statistically better in almost every category compared to Lemont during the second half of the Saturday evening contest. However, the Indians' 14-6 lead that the team built-up in the first half was too much for Oak Forest to come back. Lemont came away with its second win of the season on its rival's home turf by a score of 21-14. With the wind howling, both teams relied on their ground games heavily throughout the contest. Lemont overcame an early deficit to Richards by forcing six turnovers and recording a safety in their 23-19 victory.
Breaking It Down: Coming back from a 13-0 deficit against a 9-1 opponent in a road playoff game is no easy task, Lemont head football coach Eric Michaelsen told his team in his post-game pep-talk to the Indians. But his players were able to find a way to do just that, defeating Richards 23-19, led by their quarterback Zach Brosseau, who completed his first six passes of the second half after connecting on only five of them in the first two quarters. Richards quarterback Hasan Muhammad-Rogers was a significant reason the Bulldogs had the lead into the final minutes of the first half and stayed competitive for the majority of the evening.
