“I can’t tell you how great it is to be back in this building,” said Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves Monday night as the village board held its first meeting at the newly renovated Village Hall at 418 Main St. The approximately $2.2 million in renovations to the 120-year-old building included improvements to its lobby, roof, windows, exterior doors, bathrooms and conference rooms. Since mid-summer, temporary village offices have been housed at the former Central School on McCarthy Road. And although the board room was ready for action Monday night, finishing touches are still being put on the rest of the building.Village Administrator Ben Wehmeier said staff will begin moving back into its new offices next week. Renovations are expected to begin this week on Lemont Village Hall, officials confirmed Monday. Village officials approved several bids for the rehabilition project during their July 9 board meeting. The village's contractor, Wight and Company, reviewed all low qualified bidder, and presented recommendations to the board. The following bids were accepted for the project: Renovations to Village Hall, located at 418 Main St., were initially expected to cost approximately $1.75 million, but officials said the project is going to be about $50,000 under budget. Let me think about this for as minute. We taxpayers own two buildings...the school which is unused and the Village Hall which needs work/money spent. If the school works temporarily...it works! So, why not save the tax payers a buck and simply stay there and sell the Village Hall.   more ›

The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education will consider Tuesday its 2012-13 support staffing plan, as well as an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Lemont for the use of Central School. According to the meeting agenda, District 113A administrators are recommending that the board maintain current staffing levels for all educational support personnel, including building/ground and transportation staff. I just wanted to say that I have lived in Lemont since 1986 and have had no problems in the past. However, we are now living in Covington Knolls and one of my neighbors continually parks her car in her driveway blocking the sidwalk. This is a small matter, but it is a violation of our parking ordinace. The police issued a warning but told me to complain to the Building Code authorities in the …   more ›
