Three people were seriously injured Friday night in a two-car, T-bone crash in unincorporated Lemont, authorities said. DuPage County Sheriff's police and the Lemont Fire Protection District responded just before 8 p.m. to the crash, which occurred just south of 97th Street on Lemont Road, fire officials said. Lemont Battalion Chief Matt Peksa said both drivers—one of whom had to be extricated—and a passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage. Most of Lemont Road was still shut down as of 11 p.m. Witnesses said all lanes were closes except a partial shoulder, and that both vehicles were still at the scene. Police said Victor and Smaranada Badescu were crossing the street at a crosswalk in the 600 block of State Street—heading to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 210 Logan St.—around 9:55 a.m. when they were struck by a vehicle in the northbound lane. As of Monday afternoon, Victor Badescu was listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit with a head injury and broken bones. Smaranada is also hospitalized with broken bones. An Illinois state trooper was hospitalized following a car accident Friday night near Lemont, and another woman involved was in serious condition. Southbound traffic on Interstate 55 was backed up from Woodward Avenue in Lemont at about 5:25 p.m., and it was delayed for nearly three hours. According to NBC Chicago, a 25-year-old woman was picking up her boyfriend, who was with the state trooper while waiting for his car to be towed. Meanwhile, another car traveling south hit the woman and then crashed into the squad car with the trooper inside. According to state police, the woman was in serious condition. Therese Thompson said the Lexus was heading west on Main Street at approximately 6:15 a.m. when it struck a guard rail and speed sign on the south side of the road, just east of Fourth Street. This is almost as crazy as a bank being robbed in town. I know the people who live in that house and I'm happy they are OK, but it is still awful to be put out of one's own house like this as a result of such awful misdeeds. A Lemont family shared a complicated story with police as to how the car ended up in the ditch, according to a Darien police report.
A Lemont teen was charged with felony delivery of cannabis Jan. 7 after Darien police said they discovered an unspecified amount of marijuana in his car’s trunk. The officers found the marijuana after Jerzy Roginski, the car’s owner and the teen’s father, called police around 2:50 a.m. and said his car was in a ditch at Concord Elementary School. Roginski, 51, of the 00W400 block of 91st Street in Lemont, told police his neighbor drove the car into the ditch while taking it for a test drive, according to the report. How about one of those streetlights that only activates when a pedestrian activates it. That would be much cheaper than something like a bridge or overpass. I believe that there already is a stiff fine for not stopping but there are few who bother because there is no one to hand out the ticket.   more ›
