Lemont Responds: Blood Drive, Card Collection Planned in Wake of Boston Tragedy

A blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lemont Fire Station No. 1. Cards will be collected for first responders in Boston through Sunday.

A Lemont organization is asking residents to show their support for those affected by the recent tragedies in Boston and Texas. In wake of the April 15 bombings at the Boston Marathon and the April 17 fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX, the Hope and Friendship Foundation is holding a community blood drive on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lemont Fire Station No. 1, 15900 New Ave. To schedule an appointment, call 708-342-9722 or visit www.heartlandbc.org. MB FInancial Bank in Lemont to Host Community Blood Drive

The bank will co-host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday with Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

MB Financial Bank in Lemont will team up with Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital on Saturday to co-host a community blood drive. The drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MB Financial Bank, 1151 State St. “It’s a great way to help your neighbors and get some special rewards for yourself,” said Karen LaBuda, banking service manager at the Lemont Banking Center. Last Chance to Sign Up for MB Financial's Blood Drive

The bank is still looking for people to participate in its LifeSource blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Friday.

MB Financial in Lemont is still looking for volunteers to participate in its spring blood drive Friday. The bank, located at 1151 State St., is hosting a LifeSource blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. LifeSource is the largest blood center in Illinois and distributes a half-million blood products annually to 60 area hospitals. According to event organizers, donating blood takes only 30 minutes, and could help save a life. There were still more than 40 spots available for volunteers as of Wednesday afternoon. The Lemont Chamber of Commerce hosts Cruise Nights from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays in downtown Lemont. This week's theme is "Buick." Due to the excessive heat warning for the remainder of this week, Waste Management will be collecting waste and recycling one hour earlier than normal. The Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St., is partnering with Heartland Blood Centers for a community blood drive Wednesday. Heartland will have a trailer in the library parking lot from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. To be a blood donor, individuals must be at least 17 years old or 16 with parental permission; weigh at least 110 pounds; be symptom-free of cold, flu or allergies; and be in general good health.
