Coach has Angels riding high; Benet looks toward volleyball rematch and Lemont holds down No. 3 slot in weekly poll.
1. Joliet Catholic Academy (23-4): Throw Christine Scheibe's name into the hat for consideration as IHSVCA Coach of the Year. Scheibe has worked her magic again. The Angels rallied from a 23-16 deficit in Game 2 to defeat Benet (25-16, 27-25) in the title match at the Mizuno Cup. And, who woulda thunk it? JCA ranked No. 1? The Angels graduated six seniors after winning the Class 3A state championship, including Wisconsin recruit Annemarie Hickey. 2. Benet (20-6): Junior Jenna Jendryk led the Redwings to victory in an epic three-set battle with St. Charles East (25-23, 21-25, 37-35). Benet rates nod over East Suburban Catholic rival JCA for No. 1 spot in weekly poll; Lemont has talent to make run in state playoffs.
1. Benet (16-4): Grace Giradot had 14 kills in the Redwings' 25-10, 25-18 victory over Providence Catholic on Thursday. Lara Ontko added seven kills. Virginia Tech recruit Jenna Jendryk chipped in six kills. Benet concludes play at the Marian Catholic Tournament Tuesday, and then faces Marist on Wednesday. 2. Joliet Catholic Academy (16-3): Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Reardon stepped to the fore with five kills and one stuff block in the third game of the Angels' 25-18, 29-31, 25-22 victory over Wheaton St. Francis in the 11th-place match at the Asics Challenge.
