Vote for one of the following (or write in your own candidate in the comments): Bolingbrook High School: Alec Boyd, senior guard on the boys basketball team. Boyd scored 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter during an overtime victory over Glenbard West. The loss was Glenbard West's first of the season. Boyd scored four quick points to spark an 8-0 run that forced overtime. He also made all four free throws in OT to help clinch the win. Boyd finished the game with 13 points total. Downers Grove South: Jerron Wilbut, who earned all-tournament honors at the Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament. The Blue Team played the Red Team on Saturday 1/7/12. Though they lost 7-1. Senior goalie on the blue team allowed three goals in the first period. Five Things You Need to Know Today

Jan. 4: Citizen's Police Academy, Library Read-In

Five things every Lemonter needs to know Wednesday.

The Lemont Police Department and the Illinois State Police will host a combined Citizen's Police Academy in 2012. The class, which runs Jan. 25 through March 14, will be broken down into eight, two-hour training sessions from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. The registration deadline is WEDNESDAY. There is no fee for the program, but space is limited. To apply, contact Lemont Police Sgt. Therese Thompson at 630-257-2229 or email tthompson@lemont.il.us. The Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St., is hosting a winter read-in from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Residents are encouraged to stop by the library this week to pick up a pledge sheet to gather donations for reading. Tuck, who is University of Connecticut-bound after this season, was named to the Nike Tournament of Champions all-tournament team for her dominate performance in the holiday tournament in Phoenix. The Nike tournament featured some of the best high school talent in the world and Tuck shined among her peers, scoring 35 points and 14 rebounds against MacArthur (TX) and playing solid throughout. Downers Grove South: Danny Spinuzza, sophomore point guard on the boys basketball team. DGS Coach Jay Baum called Spinuzza "the next coming of Bryan Mullins." Athlete of the Week: Bolingbrook Forward Ben Moore

By the voting deadline for this week's Athlete of the Week (9 p.m., Dec. 7), Bolingbrook's Ben Moore had 53 percent of the votes, making him the clear winner. Bolingbrook High School junior Ben Moore has led the Raiders to three straight victories. Moore followed up 19- and 24-point outputs in the first two games of the streak with a team-high 18 points against Lockport on Tuesday, a 63-59 win. The Raiders took a 61-56 lead on a Moore layup, earning mention from his coach. Moore scored five of his points in the fourth quarter. "We toughed it out at the end, but it shouldn't have got to that point," Rob Brost said. Athlete of the Week: Bolingbrook Defensive Back Parker Westphal

By the voting deadline for this week's Athlete of the Week (9 p.m., Nov. 30), Bolingbrook's Parker Westphal had 73 percent of the votes, making him the clear winner. What a week for Parker Westphal. Who? Westphal, Parker, sophomore defensive back for Bolingbrook's varsity football team. Check that—state-champion football team. No slight to Westphal, but the playmaker doesn't pop up much in Patch archives or Google search results prior to the Class 8A title game, during which he recorded four tackles and two sacks in the Raiders 21-17 victory over Loyola Academy.
