Unlawful Possession of Weapons by a Felon Philip D. Ipema, 56, of the 600 block of McCarthy Road, was arrested at 10:15 a.m. in the 600 block of McCarthy Road. He was charged with unlawful possession of weapons by a felon and appeared at the Bridgeview Court House for a bond hearing. According to Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy, Lemont officers were called to assist the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) and while in the process of serving a search warrant, police allegedly discovered a shotgun in Ipema’s home. Shaughnessy said Ipema possessed no Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card – and a subsequent inquiry by police found Ipema is a convicted felon, resulting in the unlawful possession of weapons charge. From Nov. 12-25, the Lemont Police Department partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to remind motorists to buckle up and to not drive impaired as part of a “Click It or Ticket/Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization effort. Local police joined other state and local law enforcement agencies to reduce highway fatalities by cracking down on unbuckled motorists and impaired drivers, both day and night.
