The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests called on the Archdiocese of Chicago Thursday to take action against ex-priest Russell L. Romano.
Members of SNAP—Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests—want Russell L. Romano to be fired. Romano, who currently lives in Bolingbrook, works as a counselor for Advocate Health Care in the Illinois Professional Heath Program in Des Plaines, according to SNAP. He is listed on the Archdiocese of Chicago website as a priest with "substantiated allegations of sexual misconduct with minors." Romano was ordained in 1973 and laicized in May 2009, according to the site. In July 2009, it was revealed that Romano left the church in 1991 after three boys reported abuse, according to ABC. UPDATED, May 8 A middle school girl is facing criminal charges after assuming responsibility for a bomb threat written outside Oakwood School on Sunday, according to Lemont police. Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy confirmed Wednesday that the girl was charged with disorderly conduct and will be tried in Cook County juvenile court. The girl also faces possible consequences at school. Students who damage school property and/or engage in threatening activities could face suspension or even expulsion, according to the district handbook. Callers are telling victims they are from the Internal Revenue Service, the Cook County Sheriff reports.
Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart is warning of a phone scam where callers threaten victims with arrest and/or deportation if they do not pay up. Cook County Sheriff’s Police have received a number of reports from the unincorporated Des Plaines area of unknown callers telling victims they are from the Internal Revenue Service or a collection agency. The callers tell the victims, all of whom are originally from India, that they could be arrested or deported if they do not send the “payments owed.” The callers often speak to the victims in various Indian languages. Officials in Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A said heightened security measures will continue at Oakwood School on Tuesday—two days after police found a bomb threat written in chalk on one of the building's exterior walls. Lemont police were present at both Oakwood and River Valley schools Monday morning in light of the threat, which was discovered Sunday afternoon by an officer patrolling the area. The message indicated that Oakwood would be bombed on Tuesday. Although the threat was specific to Oakwood, River Valley—which shares a campus with Oakwood—took the same precautionary measures.
