Services Set for Shaun Wild, Teacher Stabbed To Death Early Saturday

A memorial service for Shaun Wild will be held in his hometown of Brown Deer, WI.

Funeral services will be held this week for Shaun Wild, the Spring Brook Elementary School teacher killed early Saturday morning in a bar fight at Frankie's Blue Room. Wild's visitation will be held later this week in his hometown of Brown Deer, WI, and his funeral will be in Milwaukee. Wild was killed early Saturday morning after police said Daniel J. Olaska stabbed him and two other people at a bar in downtown Naperville. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Both the visitation and memorial will be held at Brown Deer High School, 8060 N. 60th St., Brown Deer, WI, according to a news release from North Central College.  A funeral service for close friends and family will be held at 12:30 p.m. …

OBITUARY: Frank Leslie Doll

The U.S. Army veteran and former Chicago firefighter died Oct. 20 at age 86. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, in Plymouth, IN, and Thursday, Oct. 27, in Lemont, IL.

The following obituary was submitted to Patch: Frank Leslie Doll, 86, of Bourbon, IN, and once long time active member of Lemont Township and the Lemont Fire Department, American Legion and VFW passed away at home at 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011. Frank was born in Oak Park, IL, on Aug. 24, 1925. He was the son of Leslie F. Doll and Josephine Newberg Doll. He graduated from Austin High School in 1943 and Wright Jr. College in IL. He served honorably in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 as a Tech Sergeant, T-5 with the 1346th Combat Engineers in Europe and Okinawa during WWII. On November 19, 1944, in Franklin, LA., Frank was married to Mary Ann Grajkowski (who was from Chicago, IL). They lived in Chicago for years after which they …

This may not be the time or the place for saying this, but I just wanted to take a moment to chastise the Lemont VFW. I'm a 20 year veteran / retired US Navy Senior Chief (SeaBee) with all the right qualifications for membership. My father WAS a life member of the VFW. RIP Steve Jobs—You Changed My World

Put Steve Jobs in the same category as Walt Disney. They were magic-makers of the first order.

When the world found out in February 1999 that Walter Payton needed a liver transplant, I was not particularly moved. It just didn’t pertain much to my life. Then, a few weeks later, film critic Gene Siskel died. “I am so very, very sad,” I told my husband when he delivered the news. “That’s the way other people feel about Walter Payton,” he said, mildly, but with import that has stuck all these years.  That sadness I felt when Siskel died doesn’t BEGIN to cover how I felt when my middle daughter, the child who loves all things Apple, who convinced me that giving her dad an iPad for Christmas would be a fabulous, if extravagant gift, who couldn’t wait to order the MacBook she received for her high school graduation, called Wednesday night …

Friends Remember Jeremy Asbell: 'He Always Had the Biggest Smile on His Face'

Drowning victim's memorial visitation will be held Monday. Service will be at Calvary Church in Naperville at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Those who knew Jeremy Asbell say he always had a smile on his face. Asbell, 25, was found dead in a Lemont retention pond Thursday morning. The Bolingbrook native and 2004 Romeoville High School graduate was reported missing early Tuesday morning after he and a friend were tossed from a canoe that capsized on the pond.  Crews discovered Asbell's body after two days of searchingthe pond, at Frontage Road and Woodward Avenue. Preliminary results of an autopsy indicate Asbell died of an accidental drowning and there is no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances, according to a release from the DuPage County Coroner's Office. “I used to work with Jeremy at Plato's Pizza, as well as his brother Jeff,” said Johnny Lopez on the …
