Library to Host Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. John Borling for Veteran's Day Commemoration

The program will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11. Space is limited.

Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. John Borling will be the guest speaker on Veteran's Day at the Lemont Public Library, 50 E. Wend St.

Borling is a native Chicagoan and Air Force Academy graduate, is the author of the recently published book of poetry, "Taps on the Walls." During his six and half years as a prisoner of war, he wrote poems in his mind, no paper or pen, and shared them with his fellow POWs via the tap code to help keep their spirits alive.

The program will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11. Space is limited.

• Veterans Supply Drive: For the sixth year, the Lemont Public Library is partnering with the Lemont VFW Post 5819 and the Rotary Club of Lemont-Homer Glen to collect office supplies, paper products, linens, gift cards, cleaning supplies and more for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton and the Hines V.A. Hospital in North Riverside. For each item donated, patrons will receive a coupon good for $1 off library fines or $1 worth of free printing (up to a maximum of $10 per account). The drive will be held through Nov. 11.
• Fall into Family Fun Night: Join the Lemont Park District at the CORE to celebrate fall from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15. The free family fun night will include games, crafts, snacks, music and a jumpie. For more information, call (630) 257-6787.
• Matinee @ the Library: Teens ages 13 to 17 are invited to come to the library from 2 to 4 p.m. for a Sunday matinee movie. This month's selection is I Am Legend (PG-13). Enjoy popcorn and even make some zombie origami. Sign up is required.
