Lemont, Cook County Officials Host Seminar on Property Tax Appeals

Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves, Trustee Paul Chialdikas and Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will team up Thursday to host a seminar on property tax appeals.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Village Hall, 418 Main St.

The hour-long session will education taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal in a time when the economy is putting added pressures on home and business owners.

The seminar includes a presentation by Patlak explaining how property taxes are calculated and the appeal procedure of the Board of Review. Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of Review to address their specific questions.

This event is free to the public and there is no fee to appeal at the Board of Review. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill.

Appeal forms also may be picked up at the Board of Review located at 118 N. Clark St., Room 601, in Chicago, the Bridgeview Satellite Office located at 10200 S. 76th Ave., or at the Lemont Township Office located at 1115 Warner Ave.

Village Board Meeting: The village of Lemont will hold a committee of the whole meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Village Hall, 418 Main St. To view the agenda, visit www.lemont.il.us.

Lemont Farmers Market: 
The Lemont Farmers Market will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Talcott Square, located at Stephen and Talcott streets.

Family Science Night: The Lemont Park District will host its annual Family Science Night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Centennial Community Center, 16028 W. 127th St. The event will include hands-on activities for kids, a science fair, and a performance by Steve Belliveau Magic and Science. SS Cyril & Methodius McTeacher NightTeachers from SS. Cyril and Methodius School will be serving food and the Lemont McDonald's, 1152 State St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. A portion of the sales will benefit the school.

Week 5 Football: Lemont High School (1-3) will host Tinley Park at 7 p.m. Friday.

Spin-a-Thon for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: The Lemont Park District will host a Spin-a-Thon from 9 am. to noon Saturday to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
