Lemont Firefighters Prepare to Shave Their Heads for St. Baldrick's Fundraiser

Members of the Lemont Fire Protection District will shave their heads in honor of a Lemont girl who lost her battle with cancer last fall.

Firefighters from the will shave their heads Friday night to raise money for the fight against cancer.

The group will take part in the Bolingbrook 4 Kids event, which benefits the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Doors open at 5 p.m. at Bolingbrook Golf and Country Club, 2001 Rodeo Drive, and activities will begin at 6 p.m.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a national non-profit organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. Volunteers with the organization typically host special events in which they shave their heads in solidarity with children who lost their hair during cancer treatment.

The Lemont Fire Protection District has 29 members on its St. Baldrick's team and has raised $13,052 as of Friday afternoon.

This year, the volunteers are shaving their heads in honor of Macy Ganz, the daughter of Lemont firefighter Christian Ganz. Macy died last August at the age of 3 after a two year battle with cancer.

The schedule for Friday's event is as follows:

  • 6 p.m.: Registration, raffles
  • 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Music by Music Mania
  • 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Food for purchase, including Gordon Biersch, Bar Louie, Francesca's, bd's Mongolian Grill, Go Roma, Johhny Rockets, Andy's Frozen Custard, Vintage Sweets
  • 6:35 p.m. to 6:50 p.m.: Weber Irish Dancers Perform
  • 7 p.m.: Event opens with Bolingbrook Police and Fire Honor Guard, along with the great sounds of Bolingbrook Fire Pipes & Drums
  • 7:05 p.m.: Cancer kids and families up on stage to say the Pledge of Allegiance
  • 7:10 p.m.: MaryAnn Olgelsby sings National Anthem
  • 7:15 p.m.: Event blessing by Deacon Raymond Hamilton
  • 7:20 p.m.: Opening comments
  • 7:30 p.m.: Cancer survivor Faith Robinson tells of her and her families struggle with this terrible disease
  • 7:40 p.m.: Slideshow
  • 7:55 p.m.: Golf Club plaque presentation, update on money raised and closing comments
  • 8 p.m.: Head shaving starts, along with raffles, more food and music
